Last week we took in Scott Sternberg's lovely spring collection for Band of Outsiders. Of course, it's not even fall yet--so we're shifting focus back to the season at hand. To showcase their fall collection on their web shop, Band of Outsiders generally photographs the clothes by themselves, flat on the floor. But this season they decided to do something different and shot the fall collection on one of Band's assistant designers, Ai Bihr (Scott's the head designer and creative director, obvi), and her husband, photographer Cedric Bihr.
So why models, why now? "The polaroid campaigns are more for mood and telling a story about a day in the life of the clothes," said Nicole Cari, the marketing director for Band of Outsiders. These images, she explained, show off the clothes more clearly. " Ai and Cedric are models, but also very near and dear to the brand," she added. "They also happen to embody many of the inspirations behind the fall collections."
We chatted with Ai and Cedric about the whole process--how did it feel to model? And what was it like to model with your spouse? Their photos and answers made us fall in love with Band of Outsiders (and Ai and Cedric!) just a little bit more. Fashionista: Did it feel weird to be models? Ai: It didn't really feel like being models, more like two people playing with a Wii or something. Cedric: I'm a model and photographer but I had never shot myself, so it was a true experience of freedom! You can do whatever you want! As Ai says, it was a day of playing :0 Your poses are quirky and awesome (with some clever plays on Magritte to boot)! How did you come up with them and what are you doing in these photos? Is there a story? Ai: Cedric is like this at home. Sometimes he will be doing something weird and keep doing it until i notice...sometimes I have to force myself to laugh....it's all for love, right? Cedric: It just came out like that, nothing was really prepared. I think we found a funny little story to tell each other and that's it!
What was it like to work together on this project? Ai: It was like making a quiche with him. While I was chopping the onions, he was being the clown. Cedric: Making the woman you love laugh is the best feeling, I don't mind being called the onion-side clown.
As if you're not swooning over Ai and Cedric's cuteness already, take a look them modeling Band of Outsider's fall collection. We'd like to have them at our next dinner party.
