Author of “How to Walk in High Heels”, Camilla has written for the UK Times, the Telegraph, Bazaar, and Time Style and Design in the US. She also covered the shows for Vogue UK online, reviewing all cities and hemlengths, and also assisted in the Galliano Studios. Attending fashion shows long before she was invited, London is where she started as a lowly Cinderella Fashionista. This season she is very excited to share some of her adventures with you.

Meet London’s It girls. They’re the ones designers long to dress and they’re as happy in the market or clubs as they are on the red carpet. With a different paparazzi culture (and no pesky Kardashians or Real Housewives), these are the girls who fill the gossip mags and blogs across the pond.

Burberry was the show to be at this week in London. The biggest venue we’ve been to all week–a tent set up in Kensington Gardens–was barely able to contain the star power of Kanye West (his second show of the day), Sienna Miller, Samantha “Sam Cam” Cameron, and a drop-dead-gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Fashion royalty was there, too, in the form of Anna Wintour, Olivier Theyskens, Rachel Zoe, and Mario Testino.

The show live-streamed on multiple sources (including Fashionista!) and once again the label is putting the spring goods on sale right away–though you have to wait a few months before they ship. So what would we buy?

New York Fashion Week wrapped last Thurdsay, and while the event won it’s fair share of sartorial praise, for many it was yet another reminder of how painfully un-diverse the fashion world and particularly, the runway, is.

The site Loop21 has analyzed diversity on the New York runways for a few seasons now, and the spring 2012 report is in. The site found an uptick in the number of models of color on the runways this season, highlighting the efforts of Tracy Reese, J.Crew, St. John and Imitation of Christ for putting on the most diverse shows. Kudos also to Costello Tagliapietra, Ohne Titel and Rad Hourani, each of whom cast over half their shows with non-white models.

But while numbers may have been up since last year (where 25 out of 144 shows featured no black models at all), they’re still pretty dismal. According to the report, out of more than 200 designers showing at New York Fashion Week, 20 of them featured no black models. And for the most part, the runways are mainly white, with percentages of models of color hovering somewhere in the 20% region.

Writing for the Huffington Post, Loop21 contributing editor Kelly Goff notes that there are still some designers who could do better.

Model, muse, Carine Roitfeld offspring and graphic designer Julia Restoin Roitfeld is either designing a line of lingerie or buying a lot of it and then talking to reporters about how much lingerie she has.

At yesterday’s Burberry show, where she sat front row amongst Gemma Arteron, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Sienna Miller and Kanye West, Julia told WWD, “I’m mostly excited about the lingerie collection I’m working on. I have a really great lingerie collection, but it’s not for my boyfriend–he doesn’t care–it’s for myself. Next to shoes, it’s my favorite luxury.”

I’m going to start this review by apologizing profusely to Alice Temperley, because her gorgeous spring collection did not have my full attention. And that’s not because it was boring. Just the opposite, in fact. Held in a grand hall in the British Museum, models entered through a central door, walked a circuit in front of the audience, then went to stand on the stairs in a lovely tableau. There was drama, there was sparkle, there was visible nudity under many sheer looks. But Pippa Middleton was in the front row.

Pippa quietly snuck in before the show started and a pair of guards stood in front of her until everyone was seated. I’m not sure the room really realized who was there until the photogs figured it out and all lenses were suddenly aimed at her. She looked fresh-faced and lovely, and smiled throughout the show, obviously liking what she saw. And here’s what she saw:

With all the secrecy surrounding last night’s super exclusive Tom Ford presentation in London (no one was even allowed to tweet during), we thought we might actually have to wait until official pictures were released to see the collection. Lucky for us, someone** had enough balls to actually snap a photograph of the model board and it’s already on the internet (kind of like what happened last year). It shows each of the models–from Carmen Kass to Anja Rubik to Candice Swanepoel–wearing looks from the collection. So now you can see what those peasant blouses that everyone’s been raving about actually look like! Read more »

Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet and Billy Reid have each won a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in the past three years, and the talented designers are no doubt in high demand for collaborative projects. So who has the powerhouse trio decided to partner with? None other than coffee-giant Starbucks.

In one of the most unlikely collaborations we’ve ever heard of, Wang, Theallet and Reid have all designed limited-edition tees in celebration of Starbucks’ 40th birthday. Each tee will be sold in-stores as well as online and, like everything else Starbucks produces, they will feature the instantly-recognizable logo of the brand (albeit slightly hidden).

London is an idea factory. It’s a mix of the wild, wacky, and unexpected and it feeds the entire industry. This is the city that breeds the original. You’ll find a unique cast of characters on the runway as well as in the front row. Here are some key faces to look out for:

Last week we took in Scott Sternberg‘s lovely spring collection for Band of Outsiders. Of course, it’s not even fall yet–so we’re shifting focus back to the season at hand. To showcase their fall collection on their web shop, Band of Outsiders generally photographs the clothes by themselves, flat on the floor. But this season they decided to do something different and shot the fall collection on one of Band’s assistant designers, Ai Bihr (Scott’s the head designer and creative director, obvi), and her husband, photographer Cedric Bihr.

So why models, why now? “The polaroid campaigns are more for mood and telling a story about a day in the life of the clothes,” said Nicole Cari, the marketing director for Band of Outsiders. These images, she explained, show off the clothes more clearly. ” Ai and Cedric are models, but also very near and dear to the brand,” she added. “They also happen to embody many of the inspirations behind the fall collections.”

We chatted with Ai and Cedric about the whole process–how did it feel to model? And what was it like to model with your spouse? Their photos and answers made us fall in love with Band of Outsiders (and Ai and Cedric!) just a little bit more.
