We love Zach Galifianakis, but really? Designing a handbag? We thought he just carried one in the movies.

We never saw it coming but it’s true. The comedian has been tapped by Keith Richards’ wife Patti Hansen to design a one-of-a-kind handbag for her line Hung On U, which will be auctioned off for charity at the bag line’s Barneys launch party. Proceeds will benefit the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation

Galifianakis isn’t the only unlikely guest celebrity designer:

Tom Ford held another one of his top secret, super exclusive presentations in London last night. He unveiled his spring 2012 collection to a small group of press and while we were not among them, we already have a pretty good idea of who was there and what the clothes looked like. Sexy, maximalist and ’90s Gucci-esque seem to have been the main themes.

Here’s what we’ve gathered from the likes of Cathy Horyn, Hamish Bowles, Rachel Zoe and more.

The Vibe:

By the time Anna Wintour, Anna Dello Russo, Carine Roitfeld, Glenda Bailey, Harrods and co had taken their seats (promptly at 6pm) the select presentation had become a three-row show.

Mulberry’s presence has loomed large at London fashion week this season, from providing the adorable fashion week totes (emblazoned with the slogan “Ooh, I say!” and featuring a drawing of a Mulberry bag), to the real thing being carried on the arms of show goers everywhere I look. The theme for their stellar spring show was no less all-encompassing.

It all started with a box-like invitation that opened to play a tinny music box song. Upon arriving at Claridge’s ballroom for the show, I was greeted by an ice cream truck, lemonade in glass bottles, and giant ice cream cones everywhere. The fantasy continued inside, with animal balloons crowding every corner of the room. The runway entrance was a clown’s mouth, designed to look like a funhouse ride. As cheery carnival music started to play, it suddenly got dark, and thunder and “lightning” cracked. This is the British seaside in summer.

Emma Hill, Mulberry‘s creative director told me, “I was looking at old photos of my and my family. We used to go to a barrier island. It’s such an English thing to do. We would all be in our swimwear…with umbrellas eating fish and chips on the beach in the rain.” She went on to say, “We’re all about layering, so we did a whole ‘be prepared’ thing.”

I think I had a smile on my face for the duration of the show. Perhaps it was all the VIP pups sitting front row (and walking the runway). Olivia Palermo was there, too, swamped by non-canine admirers, though I missed the ultimate VIP sighting since Kristen Stewart and Kate Moss were present at an earlier show (Mulberry ran twice due to a smaller venue.)

Watching last night’s award show, we laughed (thank you, Jane Lynch), we cried (Friday Night Light‘s Kyle Chandler tends to do that to us), but most of all we admired the show-stopping creatures that ruled the red carpet. Oh, and the actresses wearing them didn’t look too shabby either.

From Kate Winslet‘s fire-engine red gown (red on the red carpet was kind of a thing last night) to Gwyneth Paltrow‘s midriff-baring top (yes we know, what a show-off), check out our favorite red carpet looks from last night.

Lauren Conrad‘s Paper Crown line is chugging along on the fashion calendar, which means she’s just released the look book for her spring 2012 collection (she previously put out fall and holiday).

It’s her third collection for Paper Crown, and so far the look for the line is consistent–sweet wearable basics that you could picture LC wearing. This season’s got an adorable mod twist with Peter Pan collars on blouses and an especially charming pink striped day coat. There are lots of girly bow details than run throughout the collection and they’re particularly charming on the backs blouses that dip low in the back. I also liked the dresses with longer hemlines and baggy sweaters styled over floral skirts while I found the shorter solid-color dresses to be kind of a snooze.

What do you think of Conrad’s third collection for her own line? Would you wear Paper Crown?

Sorry for the delay here…we got a little bogged down with NYFW. But better late than never, right?

1. Does Oliver know his derogatory remarks about fat people are being aired on national tv? Not fashion television—NATIONAL TELEVISION?!

2. Boyfriend who lost his girlfriend’s favorite dress in an airport—why would you even take the responsibility of looking after it? That was your initial mistake.

3. Why is Oliver consulting Tim on what DD breasts look like? US Weekly would provide better guidance.

4. Don’t all of these couples kind of make you sick?

5. Laura why are you chastising Bert for ripping off Dior when you just blatantly ripped off Pamela Roland and like 10 other designers who also make what you just created?

Beyonce is fashion week hopping just like the rest of the industry. She stopped by J.Crew, Rodarte and Vera Wang during New York Fashion Week with sis Solange, and yesterday she actually walked the runway for House of Dereon, the line she launched with her mom in 2004. The show celebrated House of Dereon’s UK debut at Selfridges. Is there anything Beyonce can’t do? (We didn’t think so.)

Issa had the misfortune of showing against House of Dereon (yep, that’s Beyoncé’s line with her mom) on Saturday, which was debuting for the first time ever in the UK. The London fashion week press bus (a godsend and also a great way to see the city) was absolutely abuzz about the show, and the poor PR person at Selfridges was undoubtedly inundated with requests (myself included!) And yes, Queen B walked the runway after the show, arm-in-arm with mom Tina. Alas, I wasn’t there to see it, which was fine, because I sat front row at Issa, a line adored by actual royal, Kate Middleton.

Kate has famously worn Issa for high-profile events, like announcing her engagement to Prince William and multiple times during her trip to Canada. Issa is making sure that she has plenty to choose from next spring–especially if she decides to take a trip to Rio’s Carnival. Daniella Helayel, Issa’s designer, hails from Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro was the inspiration for the collection. While a modern version of “Girl from Ipanema” played, models sashayed by with long Middleton-esque waves bouncing in time, some topped with adorable Stephen Jones hats.

Having just come from a punk-influenced House of Holland show, I felt primed for punk godmother Vivienne Westwood. While the appearance of Pamela Anderson in the front row felt slightly incongruous (though she’s a big fan), I was ready for some anarchy.

Westwood is well-known for embracing and publicizing pet charities, and this season’s was Cool Earth, an organization dedicated to saving the rain forest. I thought maybe I’d be looking at some eco-punk, but no. What I got was a collection of pieces that could go easily to work or out on a date. Strip away the cotton candy hair and theatrical multi-colored faces (done by makeup madwoman Alex Box), and you had a downright wearable collection of clothes. And I say that in a good way. Punk is dead, people. Westwood’s version of punk now manifests itself in the mishmash of looks–over 50 in this show–that she puts out.
