So, you might have heard that Missoni is doing this little 400 piece collection for Target. Yes? You’ve heard of it? We thought so.

Based on reader reactions and the shopping frenzy the Target pop-up shop inspired in NYC (everything sold out in five and a half hours), we guarantee you this collection is going to sell out in no time. And it goes on sale early tomorrow morning (try starting around 1 a.m.) online and in stores around 9.

Browse the full look book in the meantime, and plan your attack!

They’re bringing out the big guns now. If you head to our complete Fashion Week page, you can revel in the Warholian-prep brights from Tommy Hilfiger, bask in the sunrise glow of Jen Kao‘s Hawaiian prints and Japanese cuts and just try to choose a favorite from Charlotte Ronson‘s mash-up of mod inspirations. It’s just a flood of awesome.

Tracy Reese undoubtedly knows how to do flirty and feminine, and that’s what her Spring 2012 collection was all about. “It’s a very romantic collection, very colorful and lighthearted,” she told us backstage. “I think that’s important, especially today,” she said referring to her 9/11 show date. The collection did serve as a happy distraction, offering pretty floral patterns and pops of bright neon colors. Romantic lace umbrellas and chic hats by Jennifer Oullette—slightly reminiscent of Kate Middleton— added to the cheerful aesthetic.

While Fashion Week has drawn a lot of basketball players to its front rows this season, we’ve only come across one ice skater–and a very fashionable one at that. The incomparable Johnny Weir was front row at Timo Weiland’s inaugural runway show last night (which was awesome, by the way, review and pics to come) and took some time to chat with us as we waited for the show to start.

Johnny’s gotten a lot of attention for his colorful and risk-taking style both on and off the ice. From an appearance on The Rachel Zoe Project, to a performance at last season’s Elise Øverland show, to designing a range of dresses, Johnny is making his way through the fashion world with the same enthusiasm and energy he gives to his ice skating. See what he has to say about his attempts at color-blocking, his upcoming runway debut, and favorite designers, including Betsey Johnson, who is apparently making him a skating outfit. We can’t wait to see it!

What are you wearing?
Birkin bag, Chopard jewelry and the rest is Timo.

So, what do you like about Timo Weiland?
I love them, especially for the men, they bring this amazing texture and pop of color for a guy and it’s really hard to do that and still make it masculine and edgy and interesting and Timo does, absolutely.

What’s your approach to getting dressed every day?

At yesterday’s DKNY show, it was almost impossible to separate specific 9/11 homage from the urban Americana integral to the brand. Sure, the show notes paid explicit tribute to the tenth anniversary and “the courage, the inspiration, the compassion” of New Yorkers. But as a flock of electric red and blue looks emerged from the unmistakably NYC backdrop—a yellow cab parked in the middle of the West 26th St— it seemed the set, clothes, and music (The Guess Who’s “American Woman”) would have been just as fitting had DKNY showed any other day, not just 9/11/11.

Donna Karan’s sportswear line has forever romanticized New York– it’s in the name, after all–and yesterday’s collection was what DKNY has always been: relevant and smart, never fussy. Those red and blue looks, in eye popping stripes and Marimekko-esque florals, seemed perfectly primed for the city gal who wants to put together a striking look when she really needs to be running to the subway, like, now.

Charlotte Ronson has essentially built a career designing for her friends–which isn’t such a bad thing when you consider who we’re talking about here: Margherita Missoni, Kelly Osbourne, Joy Bryant, Whitney Port and Nicky Hilton were among the designer’s pals who came to show support at Ronson’s spring 2012 show. And that’s not even counting the Ronson bloodline, which, with Sam Ronson DJ’ing the event and Annabelle Dexter-Jones walking, was in full force.

But while the celebrities were easy to spot, the actual collection was a bit harder to pin down.

In a departure from last year’s outer galaxy runway show, Jen Kao was firmly on planet earth–more specifically, Hawaii–for her spring 2012 collection. It was nice to see the esoteric designer lightening up a little bit, too. Well, sort of.

While the visual references to her show were obvious allusions to the sunny flora and fauna of the islands, there was a deeply tragic lost love undercurrent to the collection, too. Set to a backdrop of a hazy sherbet-hued beachfront sunrise, a paper art fascinator-wearing model opened with a sun-ray orb projected onto her chest, which then grew to full-blown daylight in the room. Cue the gasps from the audience.

I’m not a whiz when it comes to the rules of physics, but if that whole “like attracts like” theory truly applies, then it should come as no surprise that the king of prep’s evening show was highly attended by, well, other mega-moguls. Russell Simmons was there, as were Anna Wintour and Anna Dello Russo (who I suppose could claim the Queen of Quirky Fascinators title by now, if nothing else). Actress Abbie Cornish and model Petra Nemcova showed as well, which made plenty of sense considering the twosome’s penchant for clean, chic clothes. More puzzling was the presence of singer Corinne Bailey Rae, who is inching dangerously close to earning what the Fug Girls have termed “The New Sophia Bush Award” (for ubiquitous presence at any and every show at NYFW).

Rachel Zoe presented her second collection for her eponymous line today at at her showroom in midtown Manhattan. It was a hot-ticket show with a line snaking around 39th St. onto Broadway. And, ever the perfectionist, Zoe delivered. The showroom was abuzz (and aTwitter) with praise for Zoe, and before we got a chance to talk to her, stylist Mary Alice Stephensen gushed that she “LOVED IT” three times.

The collection of effortlessly sexy summery separates was inspired by “Brigitte Bardot in the south of France in the late ’60s early ’70s” Zoe told us. “It’s when she was running around being glamorous without ever trying to be glamorous.” Which is quite a thing to aspire to. But Zoe’s collection might just get you there.

Check out a few more snaps I took of the presentation. We’ll post the full gallery, review, and the deets on what Skyler Morrison Berman was wearing, later.

New York Spring 2012 Beauty Trend Alert: Slicked Back Faux Mullet

Monday, Sep 12, 2011 / 4:45 PM

OK, so maybe we were getting tired of seeing easy, beachy waves and braids on runways, but we never dreamed this would be the alternative. We’ve seen an alarming number of designers giving their girls wet, slick hair, but leaving it dry in the back. The resulting look is decidedly mullet-like. And also screams, “I just went to the gym, didn’t shower, slicked my hair back, and ran to this fashion show.” Read more »

Diane Von Furstenberg‘s Spring 2012 show, titled Beginnings, was all about that clean slate–that tabula rasa–that comes with spring; the new year and the season for, well, beginnings.

It’s perhaps no coincidence that Furstenberg was slated to show on 9/11′s 10th anniversary. Diane herself finished the show to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” (the chorus is: “It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day”) and handed out mini American flags to the audience, underlining the hopeful start of a new season, not just for DVF but for America.
