Well, this is interesting…and it’s about time. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has ordered Reebok to provide $25MM in refunds to consumers who bought their various toning shoe products, WWD reports.

According to a complaint filed by the FTC, Reebok claimed that their shoes can increase strength by 11-28% in your calves, legs, and butt muscles compared to exercising in regular old shoes. Except none of that is backed up by any actual science. Oops.

Most people know Olivia Palermo from MTV’s popular reality show The City, where she was painted as the prissy villain and frenemy number one to Elle’s Erin Kaplan.

But a funny thing has happened since the series ended. Despite how she was portrayed on the show, Palermo has garnered a devoted and sizable fan base. Legions of young girls the world over–especially in the UK–gush over her style. She has countless threads devoted to her style on The Fashion Spot–which is the sartorial seal of approval–and when she goes to the beach in a bikini with her boyfriend she makes headlines in Brit tab the Daily Mail.

So we weren’t surprised when Palermo revealed a few months ago that she was launching her own blog. She’s got a built in audience.

OliviaPalermo.com go live next week. So we hopped on the phone to chat with the ex-reality star, sometimes model, sometimes design collaborator, and newly-minted blogger to find out how her site will be different from say, Lauren Conrad’s. She dished to us about her vision for her site, why it won’t be just about fashion, and, yes, her plans to someday soon launch her own line.

Online interview magazine The Talks just published a candid conversation with The Sartorialist‘s Scott Schuman. In it, the original street style blogger (well, almost–everyone copied Bill Cunningham) gives his two cents on Tavi, bloggers in general, how much money he makes, his girlfriend Garance Doré, and advertisers and magazines, which he says are “driven by fear.” He comes across as very…we’ll say ‘confident.’ Also, he uses the word integrity a LOT. Here are the best bits:

The Talks starts out asking Scott about teen bloggers like Tavi Gevinson, the 15-year old with a hugely popular blog and online magazine. Scott says he doesn’t think her audience is that big and calls her success “a little bit of a conspiracy by established print media that wanted to show that this blog thing is not that important, that it’s done by a bunch of twelve year olds.” A little extreme, no? He continues, “But a lot of us are serious grown-ups.”

Then, he says the problem with Tavi and blogs like hers is that they steal pictures from other people, arguing that “for blogs to take the next step, they have to have people like me who are in charge of all the elements – the writing, the visual, everything. Those are the ones companies can buy into.”

PARIS–Paris fashion week kicked off yesterday with a sexy bang. Anthony Vaccarello‘s spring 2012 brought the sexy back in a big way. It’s inaccurate to even call the slits on his revealing LBDs thigh high–hip high is more like it. The same amount of thigh would be exposed in a Baywatch bathing suit. It is a very hot look. Especially on Karlie Kloss. One thing though? Read more »

Balmain–and its new diffusion line Pierre Balmain–is all about rock n’ roll. So who better to embody that sensibility than the awesomely rad, platinum-haired Abbey Lee, who in addition to being an A-list model, also fronts the band Our Mountain. Sigh. Could she be any cooler? (Answer: no) Read more »

It’s no secret that fashion and movies–and the actresses who make them–go hand-in-hand. ELLE knows this well, and is hosting its 18th annual Women in Hollywood event, co-sponsored by L’Oreal Paris, the Calvin Klein Collection, and David Yurman.

It’s a glam girl-power event every year that honors women’s achievements in film. “As has long been our tradition, this year we honor an extraordinary group of women who continue to redefine what is possible in Hollywood,” said ELLE editor-in-chief Robbie Myers (via a release). “From icons to stars to emerging talent, we are thrilled to celebrate their contribution to understanding what it means to be a woman in the wider world.”

The ceremony will be held this year on Monday, October 17 at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills Hotel. We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the lovely and talented ladies who are going to be honored next month.

And the honorees are…(*drumroll*):

Trendspotting: Mad for Plaid

Tuesday, Sep 27, 2011 / 7:30 PM

Blue sheer plaid, anyone? Looks like Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, and Rachel Comey all got the same memo about aqua hued plaid for spring 2012. Not that we’re complaining! The see-through plaids are a lovely way to express your inner nerd while still retaining some sex appeal. Read more »

Happy 39th birthday, Gwynnie! Yes, it’s true, Gwyneth Paltrow turns 39 today. She has a lot to celebrate: amazing acting career, two gorgeous kids, newly-discovered singing talent, popular cookbook, devoted GOOP following.

While she’s usually charaterized as a blue bloody girl-next-door type, when you look back at her fashion choices, she’s anything but prim. Gwyneth is not afraid to show some nip on the red carpet (even while posing with a First Lady), and we salute her for it. She also takes a fair amount of fashion risks, and while it sometimes doesn’t work (2002 McQueen Oscars gown) it often does (red Tom Ford for Gucci suit, anyone?)

Click through to see Gwyneth’s most provocative looks to date. We’re looking forward to more.

Would You Rather…? Olsen Vs. Olsen Vs. Olsen on NYLON

Tuesday, Sep 27, 2011 / 5:30 PM

Yep, Mary Kate and Ashley’s little sis is Nylon‘s latest cover girl. It’s Elizabeth‘s first glossy cover and definitely won’t be her last. The budding actress is on the annual “It Girl Issue” and that she is. You can tell by the Chanel jacket. Read more »

We have to hand it to Crystal Renn, who remains resolutely calm in the face of constant body scrutiny. Today’s ridiculousness? She’s featured on Vogue Italy’s website shooting an ad campaign for high-end plus-size designer Marina Rinaldi with fellow “plus” model (and new mom) Kate Dillon. Flip over to the Daily Mail, and she’s featured at the Metropolitan Opera opening night as (their words) “now virtually unrecognisable from her days of ‘big’ modelling.” Sigh.

We reached out to Crystal‘s rep, but she’s not commenting on her weight anymore. We can’t really blame her. Here’s the thing. Weight fluctuates, and what you wear and how you’re photographed can add or subtract ten pounds. But that isn’t even the point.
