Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2012: Desert Inspiration, Chris Pine and a Man Repeller Cameo on the Runway

Holy cow. Chris Pine was at the Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2012 show! The hunky Star Trek actor was just sitting like a regular guy in a baseball hat and snug white tee--okay, he looked a lot better than most regular guys--with his dad, actor Robert Pine, and no one seemed to really pay him much attention. He was also politely--and tragically--refusing to answer any media questions, but hey, there could be worse things than being turned down for a quote from Chris Pine. Because that means he actually spoke to us. But anyway. Sorry, we were distracted for a second. Back to the regularly scheduled programming.

He was also politely--and tragically--refusing to answer any media questions, but hey, there could be worse things than being turned down for a quote from Chris Pine. Because that means he actually spoke to us. But anyway. Sorry, we were distracted for a second. Back to the regularly scheduled programming. The Rebecca Minkoff spring 2012 collection called “Desert Love”, was inspired by color-happy Mexican architect Luis Barragan and a recent jaunt to, you guessed it, the desert. The inspirations were evident in the earthy rust, dusty sand, skyscape blue, citron yellow and juicy mango hues, plus the fluid, flowing silhouettes that bring a windblown landscape to mind. The prints and textures were a mix of abstract water-color florals, lace cut-outs, and python, because there are lots of snakes in the desert, we presume. And by the way, look number 23 in the floaty harness top and leather shorts? None other than a smiling Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, who took a couple Blackberry snaps while working it down the runway. Now, girls go absolutely nutso for Rebecca Minkoff bags and shoes, so the attention on the accessories was just as rapt as the clothes. Models were holding embellished and mixed-texture clutches (more python!), slouchy leather hobos and handbags, and our favorites, the chain-link and gold-detail handle structured satchels. The shoes were a harder and chunkier balance to the breezy femininity of the clothes: rattan lace-ups wedges and flatforms (which look way easier to balance on than wood ones), chunky stacked heel sandals, and slashed-front ankle-buckle wedges. A row of starlets packed the row diagonally across from the Pines father-son bonding session: Elizabeth Reaser, Angela Simmons, Sophia Bush, Michelle Trachtenberg, Katie Cassidy, and a girl we thought was Leven Rambin, until the real Leven Rambin showed up and we realized it was Cameron Richardson. Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel (who will always be Rory Gilmore to us--loved that show) was also sitting pretty along the runway. The super sweet and soft-spoken actress told us before the show that she’s a big Rebecca Minkoff fan and, “I love her bags and her shoes.”

All around a fabulous show: Pretty clothes, fabulous accessories and lots of celeb-sighting fun.
