Sophie Theallet Spring 2012: Sensuality and Elegance Made Easy

If Sophie Theallet's show Tuesday night proved one thing, it was consistency. The collection was almost all dresses, which is what Theallet does best. This season was heavy on the elegance, with a number of gowns begging to be seen on the backs of Hollywood actresses. Glamorous and a little sexy (especially from behind), but in an understated way, they're the kind of dresses we always hope to see on red carpets. There were also several options for one of Theallet's best-known fans: Michelle Obama.

The way these dresses moved provided an additional wow factor. Soft pleats as well as sheer gauzy layers over jewel-toned color-blocking gave an effortlessly chic effect. The colors and fabrics were a little darker than what we've been seeing this season, but light and springy isn't really Theallet's thing. Plus, the use of orange and blue, houndstooth-esque prints and bias cut kept the collection on trend while still fitting in perfectly with Theallet's ouvre.
