Our minds were kind of blown when we found out Tribune Standard only launched last year. We first met the designer, Tawfik Mounayer, at his resort press preview and were impressed not only because designers typically wait at least a year or two before jumping into resort, but also because the clothes looked like the work of someone much more established. There was such great attention to detail and use of fabrics and he had such a clear vision of what the line was about and the woman he designs for. We were relieved to learn that Tawfik is actually a bit of an industry vet, having worked for Gap, Ann Taylor, Isaac Mizrahi for Target and, most recently, he was vice president of design at Liz Claiborne. Tawfik has successfully taken everything he’s learned at these mega-brands and channeled it into a focused contemporary label that, if you ask us, is a lot more interesting than the aformentioned and is getting lots of positive attention.
