Indie mag Oyster relaunches with a bang this month, nabbing It-model Lindsey Wixson for the cover. [Ed. note: We just got word from Oyster that the issue is actually the launch of the mag's first international issue--not a relaunch as initially reported here and on other sites.]
The Oyster crew decamped to Nashville, Tennessee for Oyster's October/November cover starring Lindsey Wixson, photographed by Will Davidson with creative direction by Stevie Dance. The editorial, titled "Lindsey the Legend," takes a look at the other side of buzzed-about model Lindsey Wixson. You know, the homegrown American teen, not the gap-toothed vixen you may be used to seeing on Terry's Diary.
"The issue is about young ambition and she's kind of the face of the times for that," Stevie Dance said. For an issue about inspiring youth, Wixson is the go-to-girl.
So why Tennessee? "We wanted something that was already part of her story, that's why going somewhere in middle America was imperative to us," says Dance. "It was amazing to see her there because she was completely at home in that Americana culture, with the fashion, the food, the people, the music. As soon as she was on camera it was like 'Oh my God.'"
The Oyster team spent three days in Nashville with Wixson and her anonymous boyfriend "driving up and down the highway, setting off fireworks at drive-ins and having her rollerskate around towns where there was really only a Dunkin Donuts and Outback Steakhouse."
And just in case you aren't fully convinced of Wixson's Midwestern cred, she ate a BLT and french fries everyday and has an iPod full of blues and folk music.
