Given their closeness in age, repeatedly expressed love of The Virgin Suicides and overall obsession with fashion, we knew it was only a matter of time before Tavi Gevinson and Elle Fanning met and became best friends. That time has come.

Tavi got to interview Elle for Rookie and of course the first question is “So, I know that you really like The Virgin Suicides. Can we just freak out over how good it is for a sec?” And from there, the interview just keeps getting better and better. They talk about everything from style inspiration to school uniforms to Marilyn Monroe, but not before a glowing and perfect introduction from Tavi, who calls Elle “the best instant-happiness supplier of all” and “a goddamn fairy” (we agree and the closest we’ve ever come to Elle is seeing her through the window of the Marc by Marc store on Fashion’s Night Out). Here it is in full, because it’s so perfect:

Lady Gaga has been the face of MAC‘s Viva Glam campaign for the past year–her lipstick is a pale nude color–and she’s been working on a fashion project with Nicola Formichetti for the cosmetics brand. Back in March, Gaga put out a call for fans to submit head shots of themselves which would be incorporated into a “masterpiece” of a dress. (In a fit of Manic Panic-induced craziness, I actually submitted a picture of myself with pink hair. Not sure I made the cut, though.)

Watch Gaga float and stare dreamily, and then release a tiny version of herself which flies away. All while wearing the tallest shoes I think she’s worn to date. Read more »

Kim Kardashian (and Kris Jenner) are in Dubai! Based on her latest blog post, she’s there for the opening of a place called Millions of Milkshakes. In addition to milkshake photo ops, Kim also made some time to take in some Arab culture, including trying on burkas and hijabs. Here she is with her momager leaving a store wearing an abaya. We’re sure this was just a spur-of-the-moment activity and paparazzi just happened to be there! Read more »

It’s been a week since Paris Fashion Week ended, and at least that long since we’ve heard any rumors about a Dior successor. Well, we still don’t know a darned thing, but a fashion heavyweight, in the form of Carine Roitfeld, just gave her vote of approval to Marc Jacobs.

Vogue UK caught up with Carine at a book signing for Irreverent yesterday, and caught her in a chatty mood. She told the glossy, “He understands the company, how it works and how to work with them. He’s been given the shoulders to do the Dior job already. He’s never done couture though, so I’d be really excited to see him do couture for Dior. He’s a very smart person. If Marc gets the job, I won’t miss a single show.” (Obviously Dior would become the hottest ticket in town.)

And what about if someone else gets the job?

Last night a group of famous Australians got to meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace. Among such Aussie stars as Elle Macpherson and Hugh Jackman was androgynous male model Andrej Pejic.

While there aren’t any pictures of this historic meeting floating around yet, Pejic had a chat with Vogue UK about his outfit choice, and the reasons he chose it. The Palace said that guests could dress however they felt “most comfortable”, which made everyone really nervous about what Pejic would possibly wear. However, he proves that he understands the concept of “appropriate”, telling Vogue UK:

In recent years, video has become increasingly popular as a promotional tool for many industries, but especially fashion, which makes perfect sense given the highly visual nature of this world. Plus, uploading a video onto Youtube and watching it go viral is much more cost-effective than, say, paying thousands of dollars for ad space in [...]

Last week in Paris we took a break from the shows to see Delfina Delettrez’s jewelry presentation at the refreshingly open, light-filled (and cool!) Espace Rabih Kayrouz. And we were so glad we did.

Delettrez is known for her fantastical imaginative creations so we already knew we were going to see great inventive jewelry. What we didn’t expect to see were wigs. Crazy, Marie Antoinette-on-acid, hands-growing-out-of-hair wigs–all of them covered with Delettrez’s jewelry. And lest you think those wigs were just some crazy presentation gimmick, it’s all part of the collection. Delettrez designed the wigs as well. The collection, is fittingly titled “Love is in the Hair.”

“I’ve always been obsessed with hair,” Delettrez told us. “It’s so powerful. In ancient times, when men had long hair it was a sign of virility and strength.” After trying one on, she said she felt “different, royal.”

Hailing from the South of France and now based in Soho, shoe designer Jean-Michel Cazabat celebrated the opening of his first freestanding boutique on Bleecker Street last night.

The shop, which opens to the public on Saturday, is modeled after the designer’s Soho loft in his signature palette of Napolean blue, red and gold. “Because I want the customer to feel as [if] they [are coming] into my house, my home,” the engaging Cazabat explained to us in a charming French lilt while he excitedly worked the room, full of his friends and supporters, including sometime spokesmodel Becka Diamond, Nicole Miller, Garage Magazine‘s Shala Monroque, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo, Naeem and Ranjana Khan, and singer Maxwell.

Cazabat’s covetable heels, boots and flats–sporting eye-catching details like perforated leather, delicate ruching and lush textures–lined the display shelves along the walls. Cazabat’s men’s line, which launched in 2003, was ensconced in a corner spot, with lots of exotic skin ankle boots and dapper brogues to peruse. A DJ was spinning clubby tunes for atmosphere while the chic guests quaffed champers and noshed on Asian fusion canapés passed by models moonlighting as waitstaff. We caught a moment with Cazabat — or Jean-Mi as his friends call him — before he happily disappeared into his crowd of party people.

While everyone’s still hyperventilating over the new Chanel spring 2012 nail colors, the nail polish industry does not rest. There are more new things out there to get excited about. Nail polish is getting more and more specialized, and we love it.

NFL-themed nail polish? OK! Plus Footloose has obviously been generating a lot of buzz lately–and so does pretty much every color that Deborah Lippmann creates–so a Footloose-themed collection makes a whole lot of sense. And nail polish that changes color in the sun? With glitter? Sign us up!

Click through to check out all three of these new nail polish collections.
