Louis Vuitton is releasing a seven-piece ‘Icon’ collection in December that will, according to the press release, “revisits tradition to refine the rules of modern dressing…it’s the LV ABC of style.”

The collection features perfect renditions of classics like a mac coat (complete with Stephen Sprouse-printed lining), a red cardigan, a pair of 5-pocket jeans and a cool parka.

There’s also a track suit (‘travel kit’) and something called a tregging (the upscale version of the jegging, a trouser legging, we assume).

Madonna is nothing if not self-aware–after all, she manipulated her own image successfully for several decades. In this new promotional video for her Macy’s Material Girl line, she pokes a lot of fun at herself–her image, her diva reputation, her age, her uncool mom-speak (“Whatevs” is “Timeless”)–while daughter Lola plays the annoyed teenager role perfectly. (We suspect she may not have had to act very hard.)

Patrik Ervell‘s has been a name to watch since he launched his eponymous menswear line in Spring 2008. His shows draw a hip who’s who kind of crowd, he’s stocked at all the right places (Barneys, Opening Ceremony, Creatures of Comfort), and he was a CFDA nominee for best menswear designer this past year. Men swoon over his clothes and girls do, too apparently. He told The Cut earlier this year, “at our online store, 20 percent of our customers are women.” So designing womenswear was the logical next step. His first capsule collection for women will land in stores and online this month.

“I’ve always had a lot of girls buying my menswear so it felt like a very natural step to take,” Ervell told us. “I think my girl might sometimes dabble in menswear pieces but the new collection also has a serious women’s component too.”

So what was different about designing for women?

Cathy Horyn’s Advice to Bloggers: Stick to News and Don’t Be ‘Shady’

At Fashion Group International’s Annual Night of Stars Gala last night we caught up with New York Times fashion scribe Cathy Horyn, who was there to present Jil Sander’s Raf Simons with an award. She recently doled out some advice for aspiring fashion writers in a video on Nowness.com, stressing the importance of reporting over getting into fashion shows. Her advice for bloggers specifically?

“I think it’s about bringing something fresh and different to a blog, that’s not really about criticism or opinion. News is good because it’s something you have that nobody else has. If you can be truthful about it, without being shady about the sourcing, then I think it’s good.”

Victoria’s Secret Models’ Dueling Halloween Parties: Current Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr is hosting a NYC Halloween soiree the same night as her predecessor and Halloween queen Heidi Klum’s annual bash. It’s like a Zoolander-esque walk-off, except they’ll be wearing funny costumes and probably won’t even see each other. The horror!! Mwahaha. {NY Post}

PETA Wants Gaga in a Lettuce Dress: PETA will design a dress of leafy greens, and is even offering to supply someone to spray the ensemble with water so it doesn’t wilt. How generous! {Styleite}

1. Where did they find these miniature workroom tables? No wonder everyone’s cutting patterns on the floor!

2. Uh, who actually wants their hair to look like patent leather?

3. Why can’t they fight over model castings like the designers used to do in Project Runway’s golden era?

4. Instead of breaking for two hours before heading to Lincoln Center, why couldn’t the designers just work through the night? That’s kind of how it works in real life.

As one of fashion’s most prolific and influential stylists, collaborators and editors, Katie Grand has gotten some of the recognition she deserves in a new Wall Street Journal profile, in which she is said to be at the top of the fashion pyramid. It’s true. Her ability to take risks and make something look fresh, while knowing what will have mass appeal, has made brands like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Topshop and many others, what they are today. She’s also the editor-in-chief of LOVE, which launched in 2009 and has quickly become one of our own fashion bibles.

Katie‘s at the top of her game and doesn’t do anything she doesn’t want to (and gets paid pretty well despite that). From how much money she makes to celebrities who were mean to her, click through for six of the most interesting new things we learned about this fashion visionary.
