Last week, The Talks shed a new light on The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman with a candid interview in which Schuman called Tavi’s success a conspiracy, said no one believes in magazines and made several comments that suggested that he and Garance are basically the only bloggers doing it right. In an interview published today with Business of Fashion‘s Imran Amed, Schuman says the aforementioned interview is “over 18 months old” and he’s since changed his mind about Tavi and other bloggers. Opening the door to his business practices even further, Schuman also gave new details on advertising, how much money he makes and his next book. Here are the best bits:

Long Nguyen is the co-founder/style director of Flaunt.

PARIS–When Natalia Vodianova emerged on the runway at the Lycée Carnot wearing a nude dropped-lapel sleeveless jacket with a silk collar shirt over “peggings” (that’s pant-legging) you could see and feel how couture work has influenced Riccardo Tisci’s clothes in ready-to-wear. Over the past few seasons, he’s usually just shown 10 couture looks instead of a show. The smaller scale format has allowed the designer to concentrate on mastering technical skills and adopting new materials not normally used in couture.

This focus on couture permeated last season’s ready-to-wear sculpted jackets and skirts–but back then the loud prints may have obscured the perfect tailoring and craftsmanship of the clothes. Not this season, though, where the predominantly lighter pastel camel, pinks, and whites–with moments of black and sparkling sequins–allowed the audience’s eye to focus on the silhouettes.

Eden Wood is a rising star with legions of fans, a budding movie and singing career and a newly-inked deal to rep a shoe brand. Oh, and did we mention she’s six-years-old?

Yep, Wood is one of the pint-sized stars of TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras–a show that needs no introduction for its bizarre (creepy?) antics. And since becoming the face of Cicciabella, she’s also caught the eye of the fashion industry at large, so much so that she’s the subject of a profile in WWD, something that many bona fide models and designers could only dream of.

So what, pray tell, does a first-grader say in an interview?

PARIS–Last night, Kenzo converted their headquarters in Paris’ Palais Royal into a giant-pop up catwalk stretching throughout the ground floor offices and into the paved courtyard. There, a sleeveless Jared Leto and Terry Richardson (full-sleeves) watched models walking down as amuse-bouches and anis champagne were served. (A newly brunette Chloe Sevigny even modeled the collection at another showing).

No need to remind you this is the first collection with Opening Ceremony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim at the helm. Quite a stretch, you might think, between the retailers of cool and the Franco-Japanese house? Not that much, the two believe.

Witness this new duet with Tony Bennett, singing the standard, “The Lady is a Tramp.” While trailer teasers have been floating around for a few weeks, this is a debut of the full video. Read more »

It sounds like Kanye West had a pretty awesome weekend following his runway debut in Paris saturday night (check out our review here). There was, of course, an after party, at which the rapper-turned-fashion fan-turned designer got up and made a speech to a crowd that included Lindsay Lohan, Karlie Kloss, Jared Leto, Dean and Dan Caten, Olivier Theyskens and more, that WWD describes as a “stream-of-consciousness, obscenity-laced tirade.” Here it is, in all its glory:

PARIS–Yesterday in a spare white showroom on the Rue Réaumur, Balmain debuted their lower priced collection Pierre Balmain. The latest installment in a series of digital shorts directed by Inez and Vinoodh featuring Abbey Lee and her band Our Mountain, clad in Pierre Balmain, screened in a loop on one wall while the collection was styled on mannequins across another.

While Balmain is known for being over-the-top–both in the way of blingy embellishments and price–Pierre Balmain is refreshingly pared down and prices start at just $180 (and runs as high as $1200 for leather jackets). It’s cool, downtown street wear in the style of Emmanuelle Alt and her mini-mes: the perfect motorcycle jacket (it comes in vest form, too); low-slung skinny jeans with subtle ribbed detailing at the hips and zippers at the ankles; loose tuxedo jackets; and athletic-inspired boxy tops and jackets, some with the “PB” Pierre Balmain logo emblazoned across the back like a varsity jacket. There was a prevalent zebra print that ran throughout the collection–it showed up on button downs and jeans–inspired by the designer’s first trip to Africa, after which he brought home a big zebra rug. The only ridiculous Balmain-ish item in the collection is the leather sweatpants. I mean, really?
