For spring 2012 Banana Republic is keeping with that ’50s ladylike vibe we saw all over the runways this past season and on Banana’s racks in their popular Mad Men collab.

“It’s not about flip flops and shorts,” Banana Republic creative director Simon Kneen told us. “It’s about tailoring and suiting, it’s polished.” Kneen believes the trend towards tailoring has to do with the economic climate–customers are looking for more. “It’s about more of those classic timeless pieces than those quick throwaway pieces you can only wear for a moment.”

At last night’s presentation, models wore ladylike below-the-knee shift dresses and little belted tops over knee-length skirt. It was work appropriate–as Banana should be–but hardly office-drab. Bossa Nova music filtered through the showroom space and it was clear Kneen was feeling Rio this season.

We’ll admit it. We kind of have a huge crush on Rachel Zoe’s newest employee and breakout star of her reality show, Jeremiah Brent. In the beginning, Jeremiah, or ‘Miah, garnered obvious comparisons to Rachel Zoe’s former employee Brad Goreski, who he was technically replacing. We even wondered if Rachel only hired him because he was super hot and made for good television and when he got fired, many criticized Rachel and Rodger for using him to get their house decorated on the cheap.

But as season four went on, ‘Miah held his own by (literally) proving himself over and over again as one of Rachel’s most dedicated and hard-working employees ever, even after he was fired. He also happens to straddle that line between hot and adorable so perfectly that it sometimes distracted us from everything else going on in the show.

Forgive me for being morbid, but it’s the week before Halloween–what better time to talk about death and makeup? Plus it seems like everywhere I turn I’m reading about it (not sure what that says about my choice of reading materials lately.)

Back in July, we reported on Brit makeup brand Illamasqua collaborating with a London funeral home to provide glam looks for the afterlife. Well, it’s not really as nutty a concept as it originally appeared.

Designer Serkan Sarier shot into the fashion industry in Spring 2011 when his first collection for Brood won the praise of fashion industry insiders like Sally Singer, Eric Wilson and Vera Wang–something that even seasoned designers can only dream of, let alone first-timers. Fast-forward one year later, Sarier’s career trajectory shows no sign of slowing down–that is if his Spring 2012 collection, shown at a discreet Chelsea gallery, is any indication.

Yes, there were a number of the fashion industry’s heavy-hitters present (Vera Wang and Sally Singer both held court), and yes, there was a giant silver malformed balloon hovering in the background (more on that later) but still, it was the clothing that really got our attention.

Frances Bean Marrying a Kurt Cobain Doppelganger?: Rumors are swirling that our fair Frances Bean is engaged to Isaiah Silva, a guy with longish hair and a beard who plays in a band and wears flannel shirts– a description that fits basically every male I went to college with, the entire neighborhood of Williamsburg, and my own brother. Yup, serious daddy complex there. {Gawker}

Chanel Replaces Freja Beha Erichsen in Carine Roitfeld-Styled Spring Ads: After five consecutive campaigns, Freja is being replaced in Chanel’s ads. Every morning while we’re writing, searching for news, getting ready to go to the office, and generally screwing around, we have two very special ladies keeping us company in the background. Yes, we are out-and-proud fans of Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb of the Today show, those singing, wine-chugging, opinionated morning hostesses extraordinaire (except for that interview with Glenn Beck today). Today a gem of wisdom nonchalantly dropped from KLG’s lips that sent us running to Google.

Turns out that Kathie Lee is a fan of Chanel‘s super-limited-edition Khaki Rose nail lacquer, which was released in 2010 for that year’s Fashion’s Night Out (below). The Khaki Vert color launched a thousand knock-offs, but the whole trio pretty much defined the color palette of manicures that fall. The Chanel colors were discontinued after selling out instantly, but you never, ever tell KLG that she can’t have something.

Last night storied French footwear label Roger Vivier threw a cocktail party at their Upper East side store to celebrate their fall winter “Uptown-Downtown” collection as well as limited edition collection “Rendez-Vous.” Creative director Bruno Frisoni’s creations for the brand–particularly the “Rendez-Vous” collection which he described as “Rock! Think Keith Richards”–nearly outshone all the fashion starlets who turned out to sip champagne and shoe-drool. Leighton Meester was there, and so were industry darlings Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Marie Amelie Sauve, Hamish Bowles, Hanne Gabe Odiele, Emily Weiss and Leandra Medine. Plus Alexandra Richards was DJing. Needless to say, it was a very chic event.

We caught Meester, who looked lovely in sequined J.Mendel, Vivier accessories and Bulgari jewels, staring distractedly at some studded Vivier boots so we seized the moment to check in with the Gossip Girl star.
