Rihanna‘s S&M video caused a stir earlier this year for its sadomasochistic imagery and general boundary-pushing scenes. The only problem? The video directly cribbed from several of David LaChapelle’s photographs. Oops.

LaChapelle filed suit against Rihanna this summer and now, the The Independent reports that the two have reached an out of court settlement. Or, in layman’s terms, Rihanna just had to fork over some serious cash.

While the settlement was for an “undisclosed sum,” LaChapelle was asking for $1 million in damages and his publicist has said that the photographer is “happy with the settlement.” According to Photo District News, Rihanna allegedly “had asked various directors to create a ‘LaChapelle-esque video’ for ‘S&M’ and…had provided a story board for the video that actually included prints of some of LaChapelle’s photographs.” Not a good look RiRi.

And, unfortunately, her legal troubles don’t end there: Another photographer is suing the songstress for plagarizing his work in the same video. Paris-based Philipp Paulus alleges that the scene featuring Rihanna taped against the wall is a direct copy of an editorial he did called Paperworld that was published in August 2010 (see a comparison below). Looks pretty similar, no?
