Last week, Marie Claire‘s December cover featuring Kim Kardashian surfaced just ten days after the reality TV star filed for divorce. The headline, which read, “Kim Kardashian Reveals What Went On In Her Crazy Marriage” raised a few suspicions about whether or not Marie Claire had known about the divorce in advance, and whether or not this strengthened claims that Kim’s marriage was a sham.

Now, images from the photo shoot and half of the interview have been released (you can read the rest when the issue hits newsstands November 22)–But they don’t immediately clear anything up. It’s obvious that the interview took place when Kim was still married–the actress says things like “I feel like where [Kris and I are] right now is the best time in my life,” and, “We have a lot of trust, and I don’t think either of us would do anything to break that. It makes life so easy. He’s such a good guy.”

But the story was definitely written (or rewritten) after Kim filed for divorce, and the writer acknowledges that the marriage lasted only 72 days.

Oh, Benetton. Controversial ads are this Italian retailer’s M.O. but their latest campaign, unveiled in Milan, will surely cause a stir. The campaign is called ‘Unhate,’ and features images of world leaders sucking face. Copyranter reports that there’s one of Barack Obama with Chinese leader Hu Jintao, France’s Nicolas Sarkozy with German chancellor Angela Merkel, and most controversially, in Rome, an image of the Pope locking lips with Egyptian imam Mohamed Ahmed el-Tayeb.

Copyranter guesses Oliviero Toscani is the man behind the campaign, as he’s the same photog who shot a nun and a priest kissing for a Benetton ad back in 1991.

John Galliano, the brand, has just launched a new site called Galliano Gazette.”As you may recall, the company lost its creative director of the same name earlier this year. However, based on this new site, which is clearly a platform for the company to overhaul its brand image, you would think Galliano had been absent for decades.

Suggesting the company is keen on erasing John Galliano, the person, from everyone’s memory, the site’s “Brand” page features a photograph and in-depth profile of Galliano’s successor Bill Gaytten with little mention of Mr. Galliano or how Gaytten came to succeed him.

Still, the site is filled with homages to the disgraced designer…

The Telegraph just brought our attention to this hilarious video of a very determined shopper going up the escalator at Saks Fifth Ave the wrong way. They surmise her laser focus is set on some sale. Maybe she’s getting her shopping and cardio in one go? Either way it’s pretty funny. And impressive. Make sure you have the volume up because the chick who is filming it cracking up is half the funny. Happy hump day.

Kim Kardashian for Skechers

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is cracking down on false advertising claims, and toning shoes have been its latest target. Back in September, Reebok had to pay $25 million in refunds to consumers for making false claims about the benefits of its so-called toning shoes.

Skechers is next up for scrutiny, and the company is bracing itself for having to make a large payout. Footwear News reports that the FTC and agencies in other countries are still investigating claims made by the company about its ShapeUps toning shoes. And even Skechers acknowledges that it may be in trouble.

marisa berenson5

The idea of having a charmed life seems very far-fetched these days, but Marisa Berenson is living proof that it’s possible. Elsa Schiaparelli is Marisa’s grandmother, and Diana Vreeland was a good family friend who put Marisa in Vogue at the age of 16 (well, actually, Marisa first appeared in Vogue as a baby when her christening portrait, shot by Irving Penn, was printed in the glossy.) She went on to have a stellar career as a model, being lensed by the likes of Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Hiro, and Richard Avedon. She eventually smashed through the model/actress barrier, with a breakout turn in Stanley Kubrick’s film Barry Lyndon. While we could go on and on about her accomplishments and career, luckily we don’t have to: Marisa has a book out now titled Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures (Rizzoli, 2011) which was edited by Steven Meisel. As the title suggests, it’s a pictorial retrospective, and much like Marisa herself, stunning and completely fascinating.

Kyle Anderson Editor

Ever since we found out Taylor Tomasi Hill was leaving Marie Claire for Moda Operandi, we’ve been wondering who would fill her (designer) shoes over at MC. And now we know: Kyle Anderson, formerly ELLE‘s Senior Accessories Editor, will be taking over as Accessories Director at Marie Claire, starting next week.

“I think after six years of working in the accessories department at ELLE, now is the right time to move on to a position where I can contribute more to the look of a magazine,” Anderson told us in an email. “And for me, working for Nina Garcia again and Marie Claire is the ideal fit.” Nina gave Kyle his start at ELLE six years ago and since then the two have remained close–back in August Kyle told Smart Chic Style: “I owe everything and all of my last six years of experiences at ELLE to [Nina] for taking a chance on me.”

Fendi‘s recent resort campaign may technically be listed with only one model credit (the lovely Natasha Poly), but what about her elaborate leaning post? It may not be selling the clothes, but you can’t miss the statue which Natasha seems to be hanging off of in every shot. Statues and mannequins are not an uncommon prop in fashion photography. They do amplify qualities which are valued for the long hours of a fashion shoot. They’re consistent, they don’t tire easily, and you always know what to expect of them. On top of which, models seem to be able (and keen) to poke, prod and occasionally grope the figures at their whim. How Pygmalion. The statues don’t seem to mind too much.

Click through for a look at some of our favorite interplay between the living, breathing model and their statue playthings. They’re a better match than you’d think. The French word for model is “mannequin,” after all.
