Miu Miu’s fall collection was a time warp into 40s fashion where every model was topped with a few victory rolls (unrelated: how great is the term “victory roll”?). The sleek hairstyle moved from the runway (also seen at Jean Paul Gaultier’s latest spring show) to magazine pages with ease. Read more »

Seoul Fashion Week Spring 2012: The Menswear Collections and the Influence of K-Pop
Long Nguyen is the co-founder/style director of Flaunt
SEOUL–I didn’t know anything about Gayo or K-pop and their ancillary subcultures of style among young adults until two years ago. Singers like Jonghyun of the band Shinee, who is fond of adding punk rocks elements to his wardrobe on or offstage, are style icons and command huge followings. Many of the designers who showed at Seoul Fashion Week dress these pop stars, hoping to connect with a young generation obsessed with the smallest details of their idols’ fashion and hairstyle.
Male K-pop stars are objects of desire; in a way, they are more sexualized than women here. To wit, images of men selling products on billboards outnumbered women. On a visit to one of the pack of cosmetics stores in the shopping district Myeongdong, I found at least over 55 different types of hair gel products. At all these stores, pop stars like 2PM singer Nichkhun and singers Yunho, Changmin, Jaejong, Yoochun and Junsu of TVQX dominated the storefront displays.

Did Material Girl Make You Feel Left Out? Madonna’s Launching Her Own Line For Grown Ups Called ‘Truth or Dare’
Madonna is finally launching her own brand for grown-ups. Following the success of Material Girl, the junior’s line she does with her daughter Lola, Madonna is launching Truth or Dare by Madonna, starting with a fragrance deal with Coty. After that will come footwear, handbags and intimates. According to PR Newswire, Truth or Dare is aimed at women ages 27-50 “who have a timeless style and an innate sex appeal.”
If that sounds like you, the collection will reportedly be available exclusively at Macy’s (like Material Girl) for the initial launch in 2012, but the fragrance will get a wider distribution in 2013.
But why now?

This Doesn’t Sit Right: Fashion Companies Are Trying to Capitalize on the Occupy Wall Street Movement
It’s inevitable that a youth-driven political movement is going to attract companies that will do anything to strike a chord with that elusive 20-something “cool” group of consumers. But when you’re talking about Occupy Wall Street (and all its international equivalents), a movement that’s kinda against consumerism, it becomes sort of ridiculous when companies start trying to target that demographic. Isn’t the 99% hard up? (Yes, we are.) But that hasn’t stopped the fashion industry–and some ballsy companies–from hopping on the OWS bandwagon and trying to sell shit.

Adventures in Kopyright: The New Kardashian Kollection Bag Line Looks Like a Lot of Other Bags (YSL, Balenciaga, Celine…)
By Leah Chernikoff
Photo: Splash via Frockwriter
Say what you will about Kim Kardashian, but the girl shows up for work. She touched down in Sydney yesterday with sis Khloe to promote the launch of a line of Kardashian Kollection bags exclusive to Australia (the designer/entrepreneur the sisters worked with on their Sears kollection, Bruno Schiavi, is a Sydney native). Only, maybe her head’s not all right following her filing for divorce and the entire world calling her marriage a sham, because instead of karrying Kardashian Kollection to promote her line, she was snapped carrying Balenciaga.
Funny choice of designer, actually. One of our favorite Aussie fashion writers, Frockwriter, points out that one of the bags in the Kardashian Kollection handbag range is an obvious Balenciaga knock off. Of course, it’s not the first time the Kardashians have been accused of knocking of a handbag. Monica Botkier sent a cease and desist letter to Sears after the Kardashian Kollection knocked off her 2009 ‘Trigger Clyde’ bag.

Balenciaga on the right, der
As we took a look through the Kardashian Kollection’s Australian handbag line we noticed a lot of other heavy “inspiration.” Read more »

Last Night’s Party: Pucci’s Peter Dundas Thinks Gwyneth Brings Him Good Luck; Alexa Chung Admits Her Halloween Costume ‘Was Shit’
Halloween might be long gone, but Tuesday night’s fete for the launch of Pucci’s new boutique at Saks Fifth Avenue showed proved fashion folks are not tired of dress up. Emilio Pucci creative director Peter Dundas co-hosted the event with Harper’s Bazaar editor in chief Glenda Bailey.
Alexa Chung manned the DJ booth guests mingled with models (Coco Rocha, Anja Rubik and Jacquelyn Jablonski amongst them) all decked out in Dundas’ gypsy-inspired Spring 2012 collection for Pucci. Which is fitting because just the night before a good chunk of the party-goers, Dundas included, had dressed up gypsy for Anja’s themed Halloween party.
“Anja’s party last night was gypsy themed, so I went as a gypsy,” Dundas told us of his Halloween costume. “I didn’t bring anything and I was so busy I really didn’t want to think about it so in the end I went to St. Marks and let me tell you, you can find everything at St. Marks within half an hour! And that’s exactly what I did.” Note to self: Hit up St. Marks for Peter Dundas-approved gypsy fashion–apparently gypsy is very in this season.

Tom Ford Launches His Full Beauty Collection at Bergdorf Goodman, Talks Halloween With Us
I’m not so jaded and cynical that meeting certain designers doesn’t leave me as excited as a little kid on Halloween. Starlets and actors do nothing for me, but I’m always excited to meet designers, especially ones with as much legend surrounding them as Tom Ford. With that being said: I MET TOM FORD YESTERDAY AND I TOUCHED HIM. (Well, I shook his hand. I didn’t sneak up on him and touch his leg or anything. Not that I didn’t think about it.)
Ford was at Bergdorf Goodman to celebrate the launch of his hotly anticipated beauty collection and to do a customer meet-and-greet and to sign autographs.
