We must give props to the clever kids over at Fashin for constructing this fake Prada ad featuring indie pop star Lana Del Rey (and her lips) and then posting it as if it were real to see which fashion blogs would bite. So far some of Fashin’s commenters, Racked, Refinery29 and Ology have all taken the bait – though Refinery29 called it out as a fake immediately and Racked was wary. (Sample comment on Fashin, “ikr wow such a fierce stunning miuccia muse.”)
We, too, were suspicious that Del Ray’s collagen’ed lips were starring in a legit Prada campaign so we got in touch with the people at Prada who confirmed that the ad is indeed a fake. Read more »

It’s officially the holiday season, which means chaos and stress and running around to 37 events in two weeks (and most likely consuming alcohol at every single one of those events). All of that stress can take a toll on your skin in the form of breakouts. While topical treatments like benzoyl peroxide definitely are effective, they can cause a lot of dryness, flaking and irritation. We went seeking some gentler alternatives, and Mathilde Thomas, the founder of the Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa at the Plaza here in New York City (and the skin care line of the same name) was happy to oblige.
Here are two DIY facial recipes, one for acne and one for redness and irritation. You can whip them up quickly at home, and once you purchase the initial ingredients, you can get dozens of facials out of them. So stop stressing about your stressed out skin, and read on:
New York Takes Aim at Miranda Kerr’s Vapidity: Sample quote from Miranda: “I want to encourage women to embrace their own uniqueness. Because just like a rose is beautiful, so is a sunflower, so is a peony. I mean, all flowers are beautiful in their own way, and that’s like women too.” Sample quote from New York: “Even if her workout routine, diet, and husband, Orlando Bloom, weren’t the only things reporters ever asked about, Kerr shows a strong reluctance to utter any sentences not purely banal.” Zing! {New York}
Daphne Guinness/FIT Exhibit Sponsor Pressured to Pull Out: Human rights group Adalah-NY is demanding the immediate withdrawal of Leviev Diamonds as a sponsor to the Daphne Guinness exhibit over at FIT. Apparently, Adalah-NY has beef with Lev Leviev (the company’s owner), over his ties to the West Bank. If Guinness holds on to this sponsorship, Adalah-NY has pledged to protest the exhibit. {WWD subscription required}

Examples of retouching L-> R, from least to most (Photo: NYT)
We all know that Photoshopping is used liberally in all our favorite magazines and campaigns, but it’s not always as obvious as those hilarious images of Adam Levine missing a chunk of his torso in Vogue Russia or when Candice Swanepoel accidentally looked like a football player in the Victoria’s Secret catalogue. Now new technology provides a method for determining exactly how much an image has been retouched. It’s all part of a growing movement to make advertising more transparent, as research has shown that these altered images can contribute to body and image disorders in young women. Read more »
Karlie Kloss has had a stellar year–she walked in a gazillion shows in September (including closing Dior in that bum-revealing look), covered many magazines, and took her first bow as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. She’s capping off her year with yet another Vogue cover, this time on Vogue Italia’s December issue. Read more »
It looks like the Kardashians won’t be fading into obscurity any time soon. The new season of Kim and Kourtney Take New York only premiered this week (did you watch?) and it appears we’ll be kicking off the new year with the trio, because here they are on the cover of Glamour‘s January issue.
Unlike the Marie Claire fiasco, wherein the mag scrambled to change the cover headline in the 11th hour, Glamour‘s cover story interview took place shortly after Kim filed for divorce.
Outtakes from the cover shoot and part of the interview are already online. While the photos depict a fun New Year’s/slumber party, the interview is a bit of a downer with Kim lamenting about how her dream of a “fairytale” life has died and how maybe she won’t get to have kids. There is no mention, however, of her high regard for Elizabeth Taylor and her many marriages and how she wants to be just like her (which she really did used to say in interviews a lot).
Click through for some of the sad things she said and more photos. You know you want to. Read more »

We’re still reeling from Versace for H&M mania–the collection launched barely two weeks ago–but H&M has just revealed their next designer collaboration. They’re sticking with the Italians for this next collab, and if you found Versace for H&M’s loud prints and studs a touch too much, this collection will deliver prints and color combinations that are just right. Get excited guys, because Marni is coming to an H&M near you on March 8.
“I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints,” Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni said in a statement. “As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colours, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic adding sporty utilitarian elements.”
In a video H&M has released to promote the collection, Castiglioni added, “I’m very proud of the result–everything has the same level of quality, craft and attention to detail that Marni is known for.” The video also offers a peek at the collection: a bold cobalt polka dotted suit, printed dresses, platform silver pumps, striped sweaters for men, and statement accessories worth waiting in line for. Basically, it looks really, really good. Take a look. Read more »
