There are many good things you can say about Toronto in the fall. It’s crisp, vibrant, alive and gorgeous. Vanity Fair’s Nick Tosches once went looking for the very essence of Autumn and ended up finding it just next to the city.

As for my own experience: the images above were all taken with my wee point-and-shoot, on my walk from my house to the tents at David Pecault square, where Toronto’s LG Fashion Week was centered.

And even though the looks coming down the runways were timed for spring, these colors provided the perfect backdrop for a week of style.

Read on to see some of the highlights from Toronto Fashion Week.

However, there’s a write-in campaign to get her on the list. Fingers. Crossed. {Telegraph}

Watch: Sean Avery Gets Dressed Very Slowly, Talks About His Style for Mr. Porter

Tuesday, Nov 1, 2011 / 1:00 PM

For their latest edition of ‘The Way I Dress,’ Mr. Porter turned the camera on New York Ranger and mega fashion fan Sean Avery.

The artfully lit, black-and-white video follows Sean through the whole getting-ready process–from underwear (yes) to fully-dressed. Sean really, really takes his time with it (seriously, dude takes about two hours just to tie his shoes) but we can’t say we’re complaining: Any extra time we have with a shirtless Avery is just fine by us. Unexpected Combinations: Sporty Meets Girly

Tuesday, Nov 1, 2011 / 12:15 PM

When you think sports apparel, you’re probably not imagining citrus tie-dye hues or a track jacket on top a flirty dress. Yet somehow, a bunch of spring runways turned out gym-worthy pieces that look refreshingly cool taken off the treadmill and paired up with more feminine pieces, like Isabel Marant did here. This an unexpected mashup we’re dying to try.

Nail art has officially become a religion. Well, sort of. A 25-year-old rabbi in suburban New York, Yael Buechler, is using a really sneaky and clever way to teach her students about the Torah–she’s doing it via nail art. (Back when I was in Catholic grammar school, we learned teachings like the catechism by rote memorization and fear-mongering. Perhaps if someone showed me the ten commandments or the stations of the cross via a manicure, I might not be the fallen Catholic I am today.)

Rabbi Buechler, who was profiled in the New York Times recently, has been using nail art to help girls personalize and understand the teachings of the Torah.

Last week, while in search of cheap jewelry for my Halloween costume, I stumbled across something pretty weird and confusing: a necklace that is basically a cartoon character version of a “traditional” Native American girl hanging from a chain. She has tanned skin, rosy cheeks, long, dark side braids, and a somewhat stereotypical-looking Native American dress. I looked over to see, in addition to the Native American girl, several similar necklaces that displayed traditionally-dressed Asian girls.

Apparently, Forever 21 thinks that people want to wear outdated, cultural stereotypes as necklaces, and that it’s okay to sell them. Unfortunately, it gets worse. Later, I perused their website and found that one of the necklaces is literally called “Oriental Girl Necklace.” Seriously. Because why not slap on an offensive and outdated descriptor to your offensive culturally-insensitive jewelry?

Yesterday a group of about thirty or so people gathered to ‘mourn’ the end of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ ‘marriage’. Sigh, the world we live in.

Apparently, someone posted this ad on Craigslist, announcing that a vigil for the end of the Humphries-Kardashian marriage would be held in front of the Kardashian‘s NYC Dash store in SoHo, at 4:15 yesterday. “It’s a sad day,” the ad read.

Surprisingly, according to Buzzfeed, several people showed up, even toting homemade signs, lit candles and flowers. Read more »

Karlie Kloss has been making quite a few semi-naked appearances these past few months, from her spread in Allure to the runways of Paris. Was it all an early audition for the Victoria’s Secret show? It looks like she may be a shoo-in to be the latest girl to don a huge pair of angel wings.

Modelinia sat in on a casting last week for the annual fantasy lingerie extravaganza and got some inside scoop from casting director John Pfeiffer about his picks for this year’s show. While the castings are important, he already has some girls in mind for the job.
