Dolce & Gabbana aren’t going to have a very relaxing holiday season. The duo had been accused last year of tax evasion for failing to declare more than $1.1 billion in sales, but in April, all charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence. Well, they better get their lawyers back on board, because that decision was overturned by a higher court in Italy and the case has been re-opened, WWD is reporting.

The reasons the case was re-opened won’t be revealed until January after the holidays, but a legal source told WWD, “I assume the Supreme Court believes the judge’s decision to clear the designers was tainted by a legal flaw, a defective motivation or an error in the application of the law.”

Another Black Friday has come and gone. There were crazy-good discounts, 12am start times, mile-long lines and a few violent incidents to boot. Now that all the dust–and buyers euphoria–has cleared see how the country fared on the year’s biggest shopping day, by the numbers.

226 million: Record-breaking number of shoppers who visited retailers or shopped online over the weekend, reported by the NRF.

90: The percentage of shoppers who, according to a survey conducted by the International Council of Shopping Centers, planned to buy items for themselves or their families, compared to 10 percent of shoppers who said they planned on buying gifts for others.

The rest of you should be ashamed of yourselves, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until it hits Carolina Herrera boutiques to see it.

Marc Jacobs is not going to Dior.

A source close to the situation tells us Jacobs “declined” the job for good sometime in “mid November.” LVMH reportedly approached Jacobs about taking the reigns at Dior in July after Bill Gaytten showed his critically-slammed couture collection for the house. Jacobs seemed a shoe-in for the job. But negotiations between LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, Dior president Sidney Toledano and Jacobs fell apart over money and the reorganization of Jacobs’ team. According to a source, Jacobs wanted to bring his team from Vuitton to Dior and “transfer the aesthetic from one house to another” (which might explain the dramatic shift towards a more girly aesthetic in Jacobs’ spring collection for Vuitton).

In the world of fashion there is a small yet consistent collection of photographers who get the majority of work for major publications and brands. In fact, many of them seem to have quite the monopoly on the fashion world. Legends like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn continued to work prolifically up until the time they passed away, and that seems to be what is so great about being behind the camera instead of in front of it. Top photographers are given the chance to work for years in an industry where most figures are in one day and out the next.

But how do we differentiate one top photographer from another? We’ll show you what to look for from visual style, what publications they regularly appear in, as well as recent ongoing collaborations with brands and models of some of the top working fashion photographers of today. This year, Black Friday is shaping up to be an even bigger shopping extravaganza than ever before. Macy’s, Target, Best Buy and Kohl’s will be opening at midnight instead of the crack of dawn. Toys “R” Us and Wal-Mart are ignoring the whole “Friday” part altogether and opening their doors at 9pm and 10pm (respectively) on Thanksgiving Day. According to a survey conducted by the National Retail Federation, stores and malls can expect up to 10% more shoppers than last year–that’s up to 152 million shoppers over the course of the weekend. But while retailers and shoppers are upping the ante this year, some people are beginning to wonder whether, in these tough economic times, shopping on Black Friday is such a smart idea in the first place.

Thakoon for Ankasa on Edition01

Notice how designer collaborations are kinda like the hottest thing in fashion right now (ahem, Missoni for Target, Versace for H&M, Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s, etc.,)? Well so did Estefania Lacayo and Jessica Wilpon Kamel, design industry vets and BFFs, who decided to launch a members only retail site called Edition01 devoted to just that. Only these aren’t hysteria-inducing collaborations between designers and mass retailers (not that we’re mad at those…at all). The idea here is more refined. Lacayo and Kamel pair up with the hottest designers (Cushnie et Ochs, Vera Wang, Doo.ri to name a few) and commission them (and their factories) to create limited edition runs of their most quintessential pieces but in a new print, fabrication or colorway. Or, in the case of today’s collection by Thakoon for home line Ankasa, they let designers experiment out of the comfort zones. New on the site today is Thakoon’s line of pillows for Ankasa made with fabrics from his resort collection.

This is a site for the discerning fashionista–someone who wants something truly and special unique. When they say collections are limited edition–they mean it. Collections for Edition01 contain, on average, between 15 and 40 pieces max.

Want to know more? So did we. We sat down with Lacayo and Kamel to ask them just how Edition01 came about and how it works.

The holidays are all about nostalgia and one of the things we’ve been nostalgic about lately is hand turkeys! You know, that childhood arts and crafts thing where you trace your hand and make it look like a turkey? To be honest, we aren’t all that crafty anymore, but our fashion friends, like Erica Domesek from P.S. I Made This for example, are like the craftiest people ever, so we asked them to help us out with this little project and they obliged.

Erica helped us assemble hand turkey-making kits, which we then sent out to some of our favorite designers, editors and other fashion peeps who then created some of the most impressive hand turkeys we’ve ever seen (we are super thankful for all of you!!). Click through to see them and find out what these brilliant artists are thankful for this year, and have a very happy Thanksgiving (or just a nice Thursday).
