You can’t hear the name Iris Apfel without conjuring up images of the 90-year-old style icon’s oversized eye glasses. Along with eclectic jewelry, they’ve become her signature. So, it should come as no surprise that after a slew of jewelry collaborations, Apfel has her sights set on designing an eyewear collection.

She’s collaborating with Eyebobs, a company known for its stylish reading glasses. Though an Iris Apfel-designed collection won’t bow until 2013, they’ve launched a limited edition frame inspired by her called, of course, the “Iris.” The thick-rimmed, oval-shaped frame is available in three colors starting in January and proceeds will benefit Lighthouse International, one of Apfel’s favorite charities, WWD is reporting.

Jennifer Lopez delivered a show-stopping performance at last night’s AMA’s, which included three costume changes and lots of getting down on the floor. However, one of Jenny from the block’s costumes looked like it had been around the block–specifically on Britney Spears circa 2003. Read more »

2011 American Music Awards - Show

Last night at the American Music Awards, we watched some awesome performances, heartwarming speeches and surprising appearances (um, the Hoff, anyone?), but mostly we were looking at all the amazing (and strange) sartorial choices.

From Nicki Minaj’s surprisingly sedate and high fashion gown (well, she did pair her ODLR with pink curls), to the adorable Sophia Grace, check out our favorite fashion moments from the night.

MIchelle Obama and Jill Biden popped over to a NASCAR race in Florida this weekend to serve as Grand Marshals, and received a rather, um, lukewarm welcome. People actually booed them, which you can hear on this video on Gawker. At least she looked good, in spite of the boos, wearing a Maison Martin Margiela top. Mrs. O reports that the FLOTUS’ Margiela top was last seen at an event in 2009. You think the NASCAR fans just hate edgy Belgian fashion? Read more »

Red Room

When so much of the fashion world seems to be launching retrospective coffee table books and museum exhibitions, Valentino is cutting out the high price tags and long lines with a virtual museum. It’s literally an entire museum dedicated to Valentino, but on your computer through a desktop application you can download online on December 5. According to a release, the retrospective museum, which spans 50 years of Valentino, would cover over 100,000 square feet if it were real.

In addition to over 300 gorgeous dresses from the Valentino archives, the museum’s content will include sketches, illustrations, ad campaigns, editorials and photos of events and memorable red carpet moments (Jackie O, Julia Roberts, etc). There’s also a library of 5,000 images and 95 runway show videos.

Carine Roitfeld

It’s looking like a slow news day with the Versace for H&M madness subsiding (or at least shifting to eBay) and Thanksgiving coming up, so we were psyched to find this Carine Roitfeld interview with the UK’s Guardian, published over the weekend. It’s another piece timed to the release of her new-ish book Irreverent (a lovely holiday gift!), and even though Carine has given tons of interviews to promote Irreverent, she never runs out of witty, charming and hilarious things to say.

In this interview, she advises women to dress their age and never ever borrow from their daughters closets:

As you get older, you must never share your wardrobe with your daughter. Never ever. You will never look beautiful in a jean jacket and a mini-skirt, even if you have a beautiful body. You have to wear something for your age or you will look really ridiculous. There are too many 50-year-olds dressing as 20-year-olds. You have to look every five years at your wardrobe and say: “Is it OK to wear this with my legs? Is it OK to wear sleeveless with my arms?’ Then you have a cull. It’s not nice but you have to do it.

It’s good advice. Click through for more highlights, including Carine’s thoughts on Twilight, her new magazine, and her habit of styling shoots with with scissors and meat.

Lady Dior Palette

Arguably you shouldn’t pay attention to the way a makeup is packaged–it’s all about how it looks on you, right? We all know (and so do cosmetics companies) that subconsciously we’re drawn to the most appealing and beautiful packaging. Companies have taken this concept a step further lately by making the palettes themselves into tiny works of art: Embossed designs and colorful patterns mixed into pressed powders are making our medicine cabinets a lot prettier. From the poshest of brands to the drugstore, you can find these gorgeous palettes everywhere.

Click through to see makeup that looks as good in the package as it does on your face.
