Ford was at Bergdorf Goodman to celebrate the launch of his hotly anticipated beauty collection and to do a customer meet-and-greet and to sign autographs. After dousing myself with Violet Blonde and slicking on some of his eyeliner (the “Metallic Moss” is a perfect darkish green that can pass for a neutral, and, bonus!–every eye liner comes with a sharpener in the package), I picked up my pass and was escorted to the queue to meet Tom Ford and have him sign something.I was told by a staff member, “One of the models will hold your bag while you’re meeting Mr.Ford.” The “models” turned out to be a pack of gorgeous boys with perfect hair (see pic at right), who could also articulately discuss the quality of Mr. Ford’s lipsticks. (@Bergdorfs tweeted that she’d like them to draw her a bath and organize her closet.) Mine was delightful, but before relieving me of my bag, he made sure that I was not going to have Ford sign something inappropriate (I briefly considered producing a lacy thong, but settled on my Tom Ford beauty invitation. Luckily.)
I had a mere 15 seconds to meet Tom Ford and ask a quick question. After being introduced to him and dispensing with the niceties (and I’m pretty sure I actually called him “Mr. Ford”), this is the first thing that popped into my mind to ask him: “So did you dress up for Halloween?”
Luckily I was not escorted out by a
minion model; Ford laughed and told me that he didn’t dress up because he spent Halloween on a flight from LA to New York. Which then made me wonder what he wore on the flight, but alas, my time was up.
Do check out Bergdorf’s new beauty boutique dedicated to Tom Ford’s new collection. It’s gorgeous, even without him in it.
