Ab Fab Is Reportedly Headed to the Big Screen

The ladies of Absolutely Fabulous are apparently pulling a Sex and the City maneuver and moving their franchise to the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter reports that co-creator and co-star Jennifer Saunders (Eddy) is planning to make the popular goofy Brit show into a movie. It's a pretty long time coming, since the show originally debuted in 1992. But the show has seen a resurgence since airing a special over the holidays (its first show in six years) that was both popular and favorably reviewed by critics. (You'll be able to catch it in the US on BBC America in January.) NY Mag published an interview with Jennifer Saunders earlier this week, and they asked her about rumors of an Ab Fab movie.

NY Mag published an interview with Jennifer Saunders earlier this week, and they asked her about rumors of an Ab Fab movie. She responded, "I’m definitely going to do it. I’m aiming to shoot this in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring." Hmmm. Let's hope that moving to an exotic place doesn't curse it the same way moving to Abu Dhabi did for Sex and the City 2.

While it sounds like the movie hasn't started shooting yet, there will be another Ab Fab TV special, with an Olympics theme, set to air in the UK in 2012. While some things from the 1990s need to stay there, we fully support this Ab Fab 90s resurgence.
