When Franca Sozzani spoke at the press conference announcing the launch of the Valentino Garavani Vitrual Museum--a project funded entirely by Garavani and his longtime partner Giancarlo Giammetti to virtually house and showcase five decades of Valentino--she said celebrities love to wear Valentino and “not because they have been asked.” And last night, despite high winds and an icy deluge, a lot of celebrities wearing a lot of Valentino turned out to celebrate the designer's groundbreaking new museum at a party at the IAC Building.
In one cozy corner Sarah Jessica Parker (with husband Matthew Broderick in tow), Courtney Love, Claire Danes, Rachel Zoe and Franca Sozzani sat crammed together on white couches, surrounding the man of the hour. Tamara Mellon introduced herself to Sarah Jessica Parker (how had they never met before?), and Courtney Love and Claire Danes fell into deep conversation (what were they talking about? being '90s icons?). Things that happen in the VIP section. Also in the mix: Daphne Guinness (how does she move so fast in those heel-less shoes?), Georgina Chapman and Harvey Weinstein. So many questions.
Outside the fancy white couch corner, there was lots of cheese being passed around (we're talking piles of parmesan) and a buffet offering ravioli, saffron risotto and eggplant parmesan. The Italians really know how to cater a party. OK, so not everyone was eating it, but I did, and thank goodness because it helped keep me warm as I walked for 20 minutes in the sideways freezing rain before I scored a cab.
