After nine seasons of glossy ad campaigns shot by Inez & Vindoodh, YSL’s Stefano Pilati has decided to go a different route for the Spring 2012 campaign–and with a different photographer too, reports WWD.

Pilati tapped David Sims to shoot the moody campaign, featuring a punky-looking Mariacarla Boscono–a huge departure from last year’s colorful and light-filled Spring campaign with Arizona Muse. Could it be the Lisbeth Salander effect?

Whatever it is, we’re digging it. Although we’d think twice before trying on Mariacarla’s DIY-looking bangs, and drawn-in brows. Something tells us it wouldn’t quite translate IRL…
