Boardwalk Empire actor Michael Pitt is the face of Prada’s spring/summer 2012 menswear campaign. Shot by David Sims, the campaign features Pitt as a ’50s golden age of Hollywood icon. Per the press release, Pitt, in this campaign, “explores the language of male role
models from the rock star to the playboy, from the self-reflective introvert to the engaging and humorous farceur.” The campaign is also meant to serve as commentary on the contemporary man. “Contemporary men work when they play and play when they work,” the release states. “The boundaries are no longer clear – as the campaign’s simple props and gestures emphasize.”
Funnily enough, this isn’t the fist time Michael Pitt has been approached to front a Prada campaign. According to an old item in Page Six (re-reported by Vogue UK), the actor, then the star of Last Days, turned down an offer to be the face of Miu Miu in 2005 (this was back when Miu Miu did menswear). Pitt reportedly didn’t like what being the face of Miu Miu would do to his image. Guess he’s changed his mind (perhaps that has something to do with his model girlfriend Jamie Bochert?). Or he was just holding out for Prada. Either way, good call.
