Did model-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss suddenly become the new face of CoverGirl over the weekend? Or is there yet another fake ad campaign swirling the internets. This image was posted on Fashin today and, at first glance, is pretty convincing as a CoverGirl print ad, with a glammed-up Karlie and black-and-white shots of Pat McGrath doing her makeup. Still, we were skeptical.
For one, the large shot of Karlie looks like it was taken backstage at a runway show or photo shoot–there are people in the background. Also, her eyelashes don’t look exaggerated (read: fake) enough to sell mascara. The ad also looks too similar to Jessica Stam’s CoverGirl ads from earlier this year. It has almost the same tagline and what appears to be exactly the same ad copy. See below to see what we mean.
Finally, we reached out to CoverGirl and they confirmed the ad is indeed fake. Kudos to Fashin for faking us out, once again.
But, but, could a CoverGirl campaign be in Karlie’s future? We wouldn’t be at all surprised.
