Dance and fashion have long inspired one another. Just look at the number of glossy editorials ballet has inspired, or the number of ballets costumed by designers (see: Valentino for the Vienna State Opera, Rodarte for Black Swan). And for choreographer James Browne, whose credits include the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger and Rachel Roy’s gorgeous video look book for her spring Rachel Rachel Roy collection, fashion and dance are inextricably intertwined. So creating a high fashion dancewear line was the logical thing to do.

“There’s nothing out there really for someone like me who likes fashion and is also looking for dancewear to dance, be comfortable, and look fashionable in, and then run from a rehearsal into a quick meeting,” Brown said. “I’ve always had this idea of trying to find dance clothes that can be worn in the studio or onstage and out to dinner.”

Last week, we wondered why Vogue Italia pulled a particular photo from Karlie Kloss’ editorial, one where she happens to look especially contorted, from their website. Now we may have our answer: It’s been popping up on pro-anorexia (“pro-ana”) sites.

Fashionista commenter Tyler McCall called this disturbing development to our attention on the story, saying, “Personally, I really loved the editorial until I searched it on Tumblr and found it tagged all over “pro-ana” and “thinspiration” blogs, and then I was kind of disturbed.”

Indeed, the editorial seems to be making the rounds on sites that encourage or promote eating disorders, including one site whose tagline read “all i need is self control // skinny girls, models, hip bones, collarbones, thin legs, flat stomachs,” another called wannabe93 (whose name refers to her ideal body weight, in pounds) and still another, whose bio reads: “cutter with diagnosed depression and eating disorders (Both Ana & Mia).”

“These sites are very, very dangerous,” says Lynn S. Grefe, MA, President and CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association.

I always love Jason Wu‘s pre fall and resort collections and feel they are a testament to how talented and versatile he is. The in-between seasons typically have more of a commercial focus than spring and fall, but Wu never sacrifices one bit of quality. He shows that he can do wearable options like pants, sweaters, blouses, jackets and flats just as well as he can do sparkly evening gowns, with the same attention to detail and ability to make every piece special and unique.

Admit it: The dead of winter isn’t always the easiest when it comes to looking hot tamale. Sure, it may be “the most wonderful time of the year,” but it’s also super stressful! There’s so much to think about; too many options. Tights or knee socks? Chunky scarf or furry collar? Bomber jacket or peacoat? Riding boots or Uggs? (That last one was a joke – Uggs are never the answer.) Inevitably, there will come a bitterly cold day this winter when you’ll find yourself faced with a difficult dilemma: Whether to suffer hypothermia of the ears yet enjoy your tunes courtesy of tiny plastic earbuds, or completely ruin your enviably static-free coif with a beanie your nana knitted you ten years ago – and keep your lobes from turning all bluey.

Thankfully, the fashion forward and evidently genius people at Juicy Couture have come up with a simple solution that’s as stylish as it is practical: Enter their faux fur ear muff headphones. These babies are as adorable and soft as a kitten, and have little spaces to insert your earbuds. Ta-da! Toasty ears, zero hat hair, and as many decibels of Weezer’s “Island in the Sun” your little eardrums can handle.

Best of all, Juicy Couture has decided to give one chilly fashionista her present a little early this year: One lucky reader will receive a free set of faux fur ear muff headphones, complete with earbuds for your MP3 player (or walkman, for you neo-luddites out there)! All you have to do is click here to enter, and get ready to keep the beat in style – and keep your ears from falling off! Oh, and you can always save that hand-knit beanie for lunch dates with Nan – promise we won’t tell.

The Pirelli calendar–otherwise known as the classiest pin-up girly calendar ever–is an annual tradition for those lucky few VIPs who find it in their mailboxes. It’s traditionally shot by world-renowned fashion photographers (Karl Lagerfeld last year, Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, Terry Richardson…the list goes on and on) and features A-list models and actresses. This morning we attended a press conference to preview the 2012 Pirelli calendar, and it left us feeling very warm and um, tingly.

First of all, the calendar was shot in Corsica by Mario Sorrenti, who was in attendance and who is exceptionally easy on the eyes (he’s a former model). Second of all, every single model in the calendar is as naked as the day she was born, and we were treated to a 20-minute long behind-the-scenes video documenting the shoots of all 12 models. Suffice it to say there was a lot of glistening flesh (in almost every scene an assistant is seen spritzing down the models), and a lot of come-hither looks. Here are the ladies who the lucky recipients will get to ogle in 2012: Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Guinevere Van Seenus, Malgosia, Edita Vilkevicute, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Margareth Made, and Rinko Kikuchi.

Brave the Winter With Fearless Boots

Tuesday, Dec 6, 2011 / 2:30 PM

As fall winds down, it’s time to look ahead to the chill of winter, and for women who love to shop, that means one thing: shopping for boots. SOREL’s new bold and modern fall/winter 2011 line is a great place to start your search, especially if you’re looking for
something that isn’t afraid of a little snow.

The beauty of Sorel’s new line – highlighted by the Tofino™ and SOREL 88™ pieces – is it’s ability to work a feminine fashion statement and to just plain work. With the Tofino, you’ll get eye-catching and sophisticated style that oozes from its soft faux fur trim and the smooth leather that overlays canvas. Its available in hot colors, too, including the very sexy chili pepper (red) – who says boots can’t make you feel seductive? No one has to know they’re super comfortable and fully waterproof.

SOREL ’88 is for the hard core winter outdoor adventurist as it will keep feet warm and toasty, and dry and steady (even on ice) thanks to the rubber outsoles. And the bright and bold color choices can heat up even the coldest winter days.

To get your SOREL boots, head to Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, or shop online at www.sorel.com/fearless, where you can also check out the entire Fall/Winter collection.

This post is brought to you by SOREL.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA PRE-FALL 2012 12/05/2011

In the past year or so “Pre Fall” has become a real “season,” a collection that is promoted and pitched to editors in addition to market editors for coverage. Granted “pre fall”–the deliveries that hits stores before fall (so like, in the summer? around June? it still confuses me)–obviously isn’t as important or as hyped as the spring and fall collections, but it’s still gaining traction. Case in point, Oscar de la Renta, who does everything in grand fashion, showed his pre fall collection on the runway yesterday at his usual space on 583 Park Ave.

It was fitting that de la Renta returned to the Upper East Side to present this collection, because the clothes were tailor made for those posh ladies who lunch, his mainstay clientele.

Remember Lisa Frank? If you grew up in the ’80s and early ’90s your answer is probably: “Duh, why are you even asking me?”

You most likely forgot about Lisa Frank after you stopped carrying your homework in a glossy folder with fuchsia and turquoise dolphins on it (I only sorta did), but she’s still kicking. And now Lisa Frank makes apparel. We have no idea if this is a super new development, but Racked just brought it to our attention and we were pretty excited. Click through to see Lisa Frank apparel.
