How to Make It in Fashion: June 21, Dream Hotel Downtown, New York

People Are Still Lining Up For Uggs… But Why?

Get ready to be a little disturbed this Wednesday afternoon: See that image above? That giant line of over-eager, sherpa-booted shoppers waiting to stampede a Manhattan UGG store? It’s not a throwback from the 2001 digital archives. It’s actually a photo taken yesterday- yesterday!- by NYC blog The Shophound.

Apparently, this roped line-up has become somewhat of a holiday tradition in New York, and an extremely puzzling one at that. Not only have UGGS been deemed so totally beyond passe by every fashion person and his/her mother, but the shearling booties are also available at approximately a kajillion other stores and websites – most likely for a much more reasonable price.

Also it looks like most of these folks standing in line are already wearing some form of potentially fungus-breeding UGGs. But I guess they need more to add to their collection? Hey, whatever floats their boat.
