LOS ANGELES--Rachel Zoe couldn't help but sparkle (literally, in a burgundy sequined Yves Saint Laurent culotte jumpsuit) last night as she hosted a soiree at the Sayers Club in Hollywood--in honor of, well, herself. The celebrity stylist celebrated the launch of the Zoe Media Group, her leading women's digital company that has expanded beyond its flagship property, The ZOE Report, to include ZOE Beautiful (body, hair, makeup, skincare and style how-to's) and AccessZOEries (bags, shoes, jewelry and more--and yes, that's really the name). And while a trendy crowd filled the sexy hotspot venue (helmed by Sam Nazarian and his SBE crew), we noticed there was nary a celebrity (Nicole Richie? Molly Sims? Kate Hudson?) in sight. Surprising turnout, considering Zoe's pull amongst Hollywood's A-list. We caught up with the multi-tasking mom and media mogul to see what was literally going on. Fashionista: This is an exciting night for you. Tell us about the expansion of your company. Rachel Zoe: I'm beyond excited about this expansion of the company. It's a whole other world for Rachel Zoe, Inc. Honestly, the whole ride is completely scary and exciting and crazy and fun! My team is just the hardest-working group; so enthusiastic, always bringing new ideas to the table. I'm still really hands-on with it all, to be honest. It's a world I was really afraid of, but now am completely obsessed with.
Behind your brand is a small trusted group of employees who curates your highly-addictive content. How challenging is it get your stamp of approval and join the ranks of Rachel Zoe? All I ever want is people that are loyal and excited to be there every day, people that are passionate about the brand and bring something to the table. I'm not one of these people who needs to hear my voice all of the time; I want to hear everyone else's voices. Add value to what you do! There's a lot of young people who are out there everyday. I want to know what's on their minds...I already know what's on mine.
Your clients are some of the hottest names in Hollywood with an obvious amount of influence in the fashion and beauty world. Would you ever consider having them contribute to your digital properties? Oh, I don't know that! I haven't really thought about that. That would definitely be my two worlds merging for sure. Right now, I really like keeping it genuine and authentic to who I am. I'm really putting forth our editorial opinion as content. I don't think it's a bad idea, actually, so you never know. I'm really open-minded. The possibilities are seriously so endless.
So, yet another thing on your plate--how do you juggle it all? Zoe: Oh please, it's a challenge everyday, but at the same time, I am having so much fun doing it all. I have the most extraordinary team and husband, and I'm not just saying that. That helps a lot. And you have probably noticed that I constantly have my son on my hip. As long as this never keeps me away from him, I'm happy! The other day, he literally almost started crawling and I almost died. He totally started to, but then got frustrated and took a breather [laughs].
