There is a lot of speculation around who is going to cover Vogue‘s March issue. Styleite reported yesterday that it heard the magazine was calling in samples for Taylor Swift, who attended Rodarte’s runway show in September with Anna Wintour. But this morning WWD is reporting that Adele is March’s cover girl.
Both of these are interesting choices. Taylor Swift covered Teen Vogue this past August, but this would be her first grown-up Vogue cover. Swift has a look that she generally sticks to–we would love to see Vogue‘s styling team do something different, edgier, more fashion-forward. Anything to get her out of those neutral colored, sparkly, princess-next-door gowns that she favors.
But Adele would be really intriguing. According to the WWD report, Vogue‘s been asking designers to make “special cover outfits” for the singer as she’s not a sample size–she wears a UK size 16/US size 14. Adele covered Vogue UK this past October, and while it was one of their best selling issues, the mag was roundly criticized for zooming in on her face and not showing her body at all (she wore custom Burberry, which you couldn’t see at all on the cover, though more was revealed in the cover story inside–see above.) She also covered Cosmopolitan ‘s December issue, and everyone held their breaths to see how Cosmo would style her. The result was the singer in a form-fitting Dolce & Gabbana lace and leopard print dress. Very Cosmo and very flattering. She also appeared this year (her face and torso visible, and smoking a cigarette) on The Gentlewoman. We’d love to see what designers come up with for her if Vogue decides to give Adele some cover love. And we’re inclined to believe (and hope) the WWD rumor is true.
So who would you like to see on Vogue‘s March cover, and what should she wear?
