Show Packages: think of them as baseball cards for the fashion set. For casting directors, they’re pertinent to their jobs in the days leading up to Fashion Week, but for the rest of us… well, they’re another excuse to ogle pretty faces, and take a look at who will be gracing the runways during the upcoming week. The biggest agencies are rolling out their strongest lineups this season…and while some present rather basic packages featuring simple photos of their models, there are a few that take creative license in the best way.

Pinterest

If you haven’t hopped on the Pinterest bandwagon yet, you should get on it, pronto. Founded in March 2010, image-based social networking site Pinterest made waves in the start-up world, garnering over 11 million total weekly views in December 2011 — a 4000% increase over six months.

The site allows users to follow other pinners and re-pin (re-post in Pinterest terminology), “like,” and comment on content that others have posted or pinned. Pinners create boards that fall under categories like Art, DIY & Crafts, Home Decor and Women’s Apparel, modeled after thematic mood boards used by magazines and fashion designers for inspirational and organizational purposes. Users can follow all boards created by a user or select individual boards to follow, filtering out pins that aren’t relevant or don’t interest them.

While in Brazil for Sao Paulo Fashion Week, I had the strange experience of doing something that would be unthinkable in the United States: I went around asking young women about their breasts. Namely, if they were fake or not.

Let me explain: We heard a rumor that Brazilian models often had small implants dubbed “Brazilian Bs,” and that implants of this kind were pretty commonplace. Naturally, I asked around to see if this was a real thing. Again, I don’t need to explain the kind of shocked reaction I would have gotten in America–but in Brazil: NBD.

Actually, Brazilians couldn’t understand why I had been so shy to ask. And the general consensus? Most young women said that yes, “many” or even “most” of their friends have breast implants. They agreed that, unlike in the U.S. perhaps, most women in Brazil opt for smaller, more natural-looking implants. The reason for the rise of surgeries in Brazil is no secret:

It looks like the Brazilian Blowout saga that’s played out for the last year has come to a conclusion, at least for now–and not everyone’s happy about it.

To review: After salon stylists complained about respiratory symptoms ostensibly related to hair straightening treatments, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) started investigating the Brazilian Blowout brand of salon hair straightening products. Despite the company’s claims to the contrary, the products were found to contain high levels of formaldehyde (a known carcinogen), which wasn’t disclosed on the packaging. The FDA got involved and issued ultimatums to the company about decreasing formaldehyde and putting proper labels on the bottles. In the meantime, industry groups like the National Healthy Nail and Beauty Salon Alliance have been lobbying for a complete ban on the products.

And now the verdict is in.

1. Did Lindsay need Brad to tell her that she’s wearing a bright color with a neutral? Didn’t she probably know what colors she was wearing?

2. Doesn’t Cleo kind of seem like a better and harder-working and more professional assistant than Brad’s actual assistant?

3. Is Andrea Olivieri wearing a gown at this photo shoot?

4. How is a look going to be “aspirational and approachable?” And how is an open cardigan with nothing underneath something that people would actually wear? Just wondering.

While Dries and Kim Jones were grabbing much of the attention in Paris last week, Capsule’s giant Fall 2012 menswear trade show took over New York. Capsule is a chance for buyers and journalists to review the designers whose resources don’t allow a presentation at fashion week or a media push. Fashion shows can feel a little tidy, even antiseptic, and trunk shows and previews can feel choreographed and corporate, but with 250 booths and even more merchants under one roof, Capsule is the closest NYC fashion comes to a bazaar.

The experience can be a little overwhelming, and even if you take your time, it can be hard to walk through the massive space without reeling. I am by no means exempt from this feeling. But once I’d straightened myself out, and collected my thoughts (which were, even then, still divided into sartorial categories of shirting, trousers, outerwear and accessories), here were the items and designers who stood out:

Harry Brant is a 15-year-old fashion lover and man about town. You might know him as the son of supermodel Stephanie Seymour and publisher Peter Brant. We first met him at a Miu Miu Musing last year, wherein he and his older brother Peter (II) nearly upstaged host Andre Leon Talley. We were smitten. He’s only 15 but he knows his shit. And he’s hilarious. We asked him to regale us with his tales from last week’s couture shows (when he’s there he stays with Alaïa). Enjoy.

I launched my couture journey in the most glamour appropriate way I could think of: Dinner with Pat McGrath. We went to the uber chic Vietnamese restaurant Tong Yen (a Paris must). Firstly, I would just like to apologize to the other diners at the restaurant. Our dinner involved tears from laughter, fake engagement rings, and of course, dual personalities. It was DIVINE, like all outings with the make up goddess.

The next day I got up and went to the Versace show. I am using the term got up very loosely because I never actually went to sleep. I got a text from Pat at 5am (she’s a 5am-9pm kind of girl) inviting me to go hang out backstage at Versace. I don’t care what time of day is–if someone invites you to hang out at Versace couture backstage, you go!

Gwyneth Paltrow graces the March cover of Haper’s Bazaar wearing the same Anthony Vaccarello dress Karlie Kloss walked in (and wore to that Carine Roitfeld vampire party) during Paris fashion week last September. You can’t see Gwyneth’s face here, but who needs to when there’s so much thigh to take in? Read more »

Hollywood Life stumbled upon this hilarious paparazzi shot of Kristen Stewart flicking someone off right while standing next to Karl Lagerfeld. Whether she’s actually telling the Kaiser to eff off (as Hollywood Life wonders), we can’t say for sure–it looks like she’s jokingly flicking off a friend in the distance. K-Stew is known to be scowly but we doubt even she would deign to flip the bird to the Kaiser, especially when he is rumored to be shooting her for a Vanity Fair editorial.
