Adventures in Copyright: Taylor Tomasi Hill’s Lane Crawford Collection Riffs on Marc by Marc, Commes des Garcons
By Hayley PhelanModa Operandi Artistic Director Taylor Tomasi Hill obviously loves her some designer duds, and we can’t fault her for that. But it looks like she might have loved her labels a little too much when designing her collection for Lane Crawford.
Elle.com‘s sharp-eyed news editor (and former Fashionista editor) pointed out that the navy strapless frock from Taylor‘s Lane Crawford collaboration bares a striking resemblance to one that Marc Jacobs sent down the runway back in 2008 for his Marc by Marc collection. Actually, scratch that: The two dresses are pretty well identical. And this is no standard LBD either: the piping, tailoring and asymmetrical ruffle make it a pretty unique design and therefore a pretty easy knockoff to spot.

But that’s not all: The blue striped blouse with cutout shoulders looks remarkably similar to a Commes des Garcons one the editor wore–and got street style snapped in–back in September 2009, while attending a J. Mendel presentation.
Tsk, tsk, it’s too bad because the rest of the collection is super cute. And, as a fashion industry insider, Taylor should have known better!
Take a look at the whole collaboration, which you can purchase now at Lane Crawford (yes, even in the U.S!), below.
