But while her music sensibility (and the fact that they went to the same high school) has prompted loads of Nicki Minaj comparisons, Banks is actually following in the footsteps of another mega-star: Lady Gaga. Or, at least when it comes to fashion anyway. The up-and-comer recently tweeted, “Shooting the video for Liquorice in Paris. Going to be epic!! @formichetti,” and it does indeed seem that Banks has tapped Gaga stylist/Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti to help style/creative direct her new video, reports Oh No They Didn’t. After a little Twitter sleuthing, there may be even bigger things in store (like a V editorial or cover, perhaps?): @formichetti tweeted this a few hours ago: “good morning! see you guys in a bit @AZEALIABANKS @inezandvinoodh @vmagazine”
We can only imagine what kind of crazy, outlandish duds Formichetti has cooked up for the new star, but we’re betting it’ll certainly be “epic.” And judging by her raunchy performance style, kooky clothes and already apparent love of wigs and colored hair, we definitely think Banks has the fashion chops to pull it off.
Whether or not the new star could cause a fashion sensation to rival Gaga–well, that remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure though: Banks is definitely one to watch–in terms of fashion and music.
UPDATE: Sources tell us that Azealia Banks is definitely getting a spread in V, and that she’ll be wearing Proenza. Fancy.
