The Hunger Games isn’t being released until March 23, but the frenzy is building. The strange world of Panem, which I envision as sort of a Willy Wonka-meets-Grapes of Wrath mash up, has obviously captured the imagination of a lot of people. And Lionsgate is going all out with its marketing. Mockingjay.net (our go-to source for all things Hunger Games), announced the soft launch of new Tumblr “Capitol Couture.” You need a password to enter, which makes it that much more exciting: #lookyourbest (*shivers*)
Once you’re in, there’s nothing much to see (except that image above of Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket!!) but you can sign up to receive the announcement of when the first issue launches. Which obviously I did right away.
In other Hunger Games beauty news, Beauty High reports that Joico was tapped to create over 500 hair color designs for the movie. Stylist Cherry Petenbrink’s challenge was to create hair that was “trendsetting and visionary and not clown-like.” In contrast, Katniss’ (played by Jennifer Lawrence) hair had to be drab. Petenbrink went with a “flat, matte brunette shade that would defy any trace of warmth.” That sounds about right. Over 35 stylists were on hand during shooting to maintain all the crazy hair styles. You can check out some of the hair looks below.
Here’s hoping we see some early Hunger Games beauty influences on the fall runways this February.
