Solange Knowles is the Latest Musician to be Signed by Next Models
By Dhani Mau Monday, Jan 9, 2012 / 11:45 AMNew mom Beyoncé isn’t the only Knowles making headlines today. Blue Ivy Carter’s aunt Solange has just opened the door to a new chapter in her own life: a modeling career. Next Models has confirmed to us that they’ve recently signed the musician/actress/dj/fashion darling, who Vogue UK is touting as the “Next Big Thing.”
The news isn’t exactly surprising. Solange has been a bit of a fixture in both fashion and beauty industries lately–attending runway shows, djing fashion parties, and becoming a Rimmel spokesperson. She’s also modeled for Armani Jeans and her mother and sister’s line House of Dereon. And like several ‘model-slashes’ before her (Songstress Lana del Rey, who was also just signed by Next, comes to mind), Solange is undeniably pretty but has also cultivated her own vaguely hipster-y look, favoring brands like Opening Ceremony, Acne and Dries van Noten.
Solange will presumably fall under the “talent” category of Next models, alongside folks like del Rey, Alexa Chung, Lou Doillon, Ellie Goulding, Julia Frakes, Harley Viera-Newton and other pretty, stylish men and women whose talents extend beyond posing for cameras.
Vogue UK also reports that Knowles will be next month’s “Today I’m Wearing” guest-blogger. Interestingly, fellow Next model Lana del Rey is rumored to be Vogue UK’s March cover girl. Could a similar honor be in Solange’s future?
