Everything about Carolina Herrera is classy–the designer herself, her creations, and of course her front rows.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand sat next to Anna Wintour, while down the runway Herrera mentee Prabal Gurung took in the show. Herrera’s biggest celeb fan, Renee Zellweger, was also there to support the designer, getting whisked to her seat only moments before the show began. (Sadly, Nicki Minaj didn’t show up this season.)
The backdrop of the runway was a large screen that displayed a wall of sketches and textile squares, as befits an artist’s studio, which was Herrera’s inspiration. The collection itself began with subdued looks–a classic combo of navy and black pencil skirts and sleek pants, and finished dramatically–pops of color, brush-stroke prints, and voluminous ball gowns mirroring the models’ bouffant hairstyle. And while we don’t necessarily think of “Carolina Herrera” and “crop tops” in the same sentence, she thoroughly modernized her signature lady-like aesthetic by pairing ball skirts with them. We’re into it.
