On day five of fashion week, just about everyone has traded in their heels and dresses for sensible boots and jeans. It was then, of course, that Chris Benz presented a collection founded on the wonders of dressing up. And, might I add, I’ve never felt so underdressed in my life as I did standing in front of the glittery gold curtain and impeccably-dressed models at Benz’s presentation.
“I feel like people really understand how to be casual and chic, but there’s something to be said for dressing up for a cocktail party or a holiday party,” said Benz, “We looked at a lof of old footage of Judy Garland and Dolly Parton, and figured out how we could channel that kind of spirit into the modern wardrobe.”
Let me just say this was the most upscale channeling of Dolly Parton there has ever been. From the assymetrical party dresses to the sequinned tee shirt dress (Benz’s favorite item in the collection), there were plenty of pieces that could turn even the frumpiest dresser into a chic partygoer, without sacrificing any comfort.
Well, maybe some comfort in the shoes… This season the Chris Benz muse (who is always a “weird, wonderful Slim Aarons lady,” according to Chris) ditched her Alejandro Ingelmo sneakers for some pumps. It’s probably worth it, considering how delightful the models all looked.
Considering today is Valentine’s Day, maybe we can all take a lesson from Chris Benz’s show: Put away the jeans and go all out! It will be a lot easier, too, with some Chris Benz in your wardrobe.
