The Rag & Bone girl is going to very warm next fall. For fall 2012, Brit expats David Neville and Marcus Wainwright sent out a collection (down a very very long runway) that's all about layers: asymmetrical skirts over skinny pants, belted sweater dresses over sheer sleeved blouses, fur and feathered vests over brocade and bronze tailored jackets, cropped shearling jackets over knits, and big belted blanket wraps over everything. Crazy mixed prints--chevron stripes next to dots next to brocade next to tapestry print next to lace next to ikat--worked together in a muted yummy fall palate of bronze, maroon, greys and pops of orangey reds. Judging from the line sheet descriptions, where items were labeled "black Goa dress," "Rani skirt," and "Taj jacket," there was an Indian influence which could be seen very subtly in the shimmering bronze fabric and the asymmetrical skirts layered over pants that recalled saris. There is plenty for the downtown Rag & Bone devotee (which of course includes all the A-list models that walk in their shows) to look forward to come fall--especially the coats and the shoes (as always). I particularly liked the print mash-up wrap knit dresses and a pair of skinny pants with indigo lace embroidered down the front. Wasn't as keen on the last looks all done in floral tapestry--too couch-y and upholstery-like for me--but you can be sure an editor will be snapped wearing it outside the tents next season.
