Dressing for The Hunger Games: Tom Ford’s Influence, Katniss’ $30,000 Hair, and Avoiding the Dancing With the Stars Look

Cinna’s Style: Lenny Kravitz gave a long interview to Moviefone (which we saw via HuffPo), and the story of Cinna’s style is pretty fascinating. While talking about Cinna’s look with director Gary Ross, Kravitz said:

First thing I said to Gary when I showed up to the set, I said, “How far do you want to take this?” And we both talked about it and I said that I’d been thinking about Tom Ford and Yves Saint Laurent, guys who are clearly genius designers, and who make very colorful, beautiful clothing, but they’re more pulled together, they’re more classic and simple. As opposed to being a John Galliano, say. It was a good contrast to Elizabeth [Banks]‘s character and the other people in the Capitol. Wes [Bentley] has this beard and Stanley Tucci’s over the top. And then Cinna’s kind of a little more laidback. I thought it was a good choice.

So besides a little bit of gold guyliner, Cinna’s style is pretty straightforward. Oh, and he’s also bisexual (sort of). Kravitz told Celebuzz, “I actually have a friend who is a dancer who is bisexual, and he was a lot of inspiration for my speech pattern and my rhythm, and kind of the way I sauntered in and out a little bit.”

From the clips we’ve seen, we think it’s pretty brilliant casting and Kravitz nailed Cinna. (Read on for more dish about Katniss’ outfits.)
