Fashionista Turns Five! Fashionista’s Fourth Editor, Britt Aboutaleb, Takes a Look Back

Learning the ropes, with Natalie
When Natalie and I inherited Fashionista we were 22 and 23. Basically, we were making it up as we went along. We didn’t really know anyone or how the industry worked—it was like going to a sort of real life grad school. Even as we figured it out and were inundated with tips and news, there’d still be slow days. In the summer, we’d wander around Soho to snap street style, find random sample sales, weird signs and once, someone had graffitied “Missoni” across a brick wall. Eventually, I was covering the European shows for Teen Vogue and Natalie was being snapped for a section of the magazine’s Handbook—I guess that’s when we knew we were doing something right.
