This is not a new rumor, but one that has been around for a while and seems to be gaining steam. Page Six is reporting this morning that "sources in Paris are gossiping about the creative friendship between Riccardo Tisci and Kanye West and believe Tisci may be influencing Kanye’s foray into fashion." Tisci sat front row at West's recent fall 2012 show in Paris and that only increased the chatter.
It's well known that Riccardo Tisci and Kanye West hang out--they were recently photographed in Vogue together and West commisioned Tisci to create the cover art for his collaborative album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne.
We decided to compare and contrast Givenchy and Kanye West (see above and below). It definitely seems like Kanye "admires" Tisci's aesthetic, and while there are several of Givenchy's signature elements there--lots of leather, lots of sex--many designers have been influenced by Tisci's Givenchy collections lately. As Style.com's Nicole Phelps said in her review:
"While [Tisci's] been consolidating, others have been catching up. But it's simply a mark of the influence his Givenchy has attained the last few seasons that we look to him to stay out in front of the fashion pack.
Kanye and Tisci's bromance aside, whether or not Tisci is officially assisting Kanye is what we really want to know. Regardless, Kanye's collection was (marginally) better received by critics, so we suppose he'll keep trying. And Tisci is not a bad guy to lean on for guidance.
