Besides Jacobs, Simons has been another strong frontrunner for the Dior job. Back in December it was reported that LVMH and Simons were “close” to coming to a deal, but that Simons’ four-year contract with Jil Sander was getting in the way. Needless to say, when Simons’ sudden departure from Jil Sander was announced last week, everyone thought it could only mean one thing: Simons would take the reigns at Dior. But alas, as has been the case with the Dior saga, an answer was neither forthcoming nor clearcut. “It is understood the parties failed to reach an agreement and it appears unlikely Simons will join the French firm,” WWD reported. Sigh. But with Simons yet to announce what he plans on doing next–and with rumors regarding Dior being what they are–we’re not closing the book on this one just yet.
