There’s been a lot of speculation recently following news of the sudden firing of long-standing America’s Next Top Model cast members “Mr.” Jay Manuel, “Miss” J. Alexander, and “world-renowned fashion photographer” Nigel Barker. Host Tyra Banks told Access Hollywood that the impossibly long-running reality show, now in its 18th cycle, was due for a “new boost,” while recent cast addition Kelly Cutrone all but confirmed to us that this “boost” would come–as rumors have forecasted–in the form of bloggers and other highly visible Internet personalities.
But it seems like not everyone in the ANTM camp agrees that bringing in bloggers, who Cutrone sees as “relevant to a huge audience,” would be a beneficial move for Camp Tyra. Last night we talked to Cycle 3 winner Eva Marcille (aka Eva Pigford aka Eva the Diva), who stars in the new Oxygen reality series Girlfriend Confidential: LA, about the potential change-ups, and she wasn’t holding back on her disdain for us Internet folk getting all up on her flat screen: “[Bloggers] are just people with opinions that don’t do this business. It’s like, me giving you an opinion about your blog. I don’t have a blog. So who am I to tell you about your blog?” And later adding, “I’m sorry, three months as a blogger is not gonna prepare you for what this world is.”
Ouch! But…aren’t the judges on America’s Next Top Model also “just people with opinions?” And what exactly is “this business”–the business of a reality series about ‘modeling’ that has never actually produced a legitimate ‘top model’? Nevermind.
Anyway, since Eva doesn’t seem to feel that bloggers are serious fashion industry resources, we were genuinely curious to know who she would rather see on the new and improved ANTM judges panel. Following in the dainty footsteps of fashion bigwig and former judge Andre Leon Talley, Eva told us that she would like to see “The Anna Wintours–the upper echelon of fashion” mentoring the Top Model hopefuls.
Anna Wintour on ANTM…Oh, the possibilities! Why had we never thought of this? Then again, no one would’ve imagined Andre Leon Talley sitting where Janice Dickinson once sat, either. Only somehow we doubt we’ll see Anna on panel evaluating a “bootie tooch”…
