Decades Co-owner Christos Garkinos On His New Bravo Show: 'It's Fashion Porn'

Almost exactly a year ago, Bravo announced plans to debut a reality show centered around the owners of L.A. vintage fashion mecca Decades. We were so excited, but then it never materialized--until now. Included in Bravo's new list of greenlit shows for next season, is "Decades (working title)" in which "Renowned boutique owners, Christos Garkinos and Cameron Silver, show off their exclusive and glamorous world of vintage couture filled with Givenchy, Balenciaga and Chanel." We wanted to find out a little more about the forthcoming series, so we spoke with Garkinos, who's been filming the show along with his business partner, Decades founder Cameron Silver, about what to expect and why their show will be different from all those other fashion reality shows.

"We have been working together for 15 years and we have great stories to tell, so we felt like it was a great way to shine a light on a part of the fashion world no one really sees," Garkinos told us over the phone. The show will center largely around the store, but also around their "dealings with people in fashion....You’ll see Cameron going to auctions, me dressing somebody for a red carpet. You’ll see a dress that’s brought in and the story of the dress the history and the idea behind it," he explained. You'll also see the company grow into more than just a consignment and resale store--including their recent expansion into jewelry and shoes. Still, those hoping to just gawk at beautiful vintage fashion won't be disappointed. "It's fashion porn," he stated simply.

Filming the show also meant that Silver and Garkinos, who have been doing business together since DecadesTwo launched over 10 years ago, would be working more closely than ever. Their offices used to be separate and about five months ago they merged into the same space. "I really would see him like once a month and now we’re with each other like 4 feet away." It sounds like the reorganization made for good television. He wouldn't say explicitly that they butt heads, but that they have a "difference in style" when it comes to working and "we're both very funny guys."

"I used to say, 'I wish there was a camera here because this is crazy.'" He insists the show is 100% real. "It’s been very organic, it's nothing we’re having to create." He also insists that Decades will set itself apart from other fashion reality shows. When asked how, he explained, "We have this caché that no other store has in the world and we’re known worldwide. We’re so passionate about fashion and telling the stories behind it."

To hear a few of those stories, and read what I imagine is basically a written version of what this show will be, check out Britt's very long but very fun to read "Life With" Cameron Silver here.
