Amanda Brooks surprised everyone a few weeks ago by abruptly leaving her position as fashion director at Barneys to relocate to England to "pursue other opportunities." She's since resurfaced on a farm in the UK and written a flurry of new blog posts, so we're assuming she's content.
But what about fashion director-less Barneys? According to WWD, the retailer has promoted Tomoko Ogura as senior fashion director. She was formerly the fashion director for women's CO-OP and has been with Barneys since 2005. Ogura will report directly to Barneys' chief women's merchant Daniella Vitale.
No word yet on who will replace Ogura at CO-OP. And no word on whether Barneys will be making a marquee hire to officially replace Brooks as fashion director or if Ogura will fill part of that role. Anyway, management must have been pleased with Ogura's performance since they're bringing her up to the big leagues.
So congrats to Ogura on her new role. We'll be watching Barneys as they revamp and re-evaluate, thanks to its recent cash infusion from new owner Perry Capital.
