Linda Evangelista and Francois-Henri Pinault Settle Out of Court for Undisclosed Sum

Well, that was fast. After only a few days in court, Linda Evangelista and her baby daddy Francois-Henri Pinault have reached an out of court settlement in their child support battle, the New York Post is reporting. Evangelista shocked pretty much everyone last week when it was reported that the supermodel was asking for an astronomical $46,000 a month in child support payments, saying that her son Augie needed round the clock nannies, armed guards and a separate apartment near his school for play dates. While the settlement sum was not disclosed, we have a feeling Pinault must have coughed up something pretty close to Evangelista's asking price--after all, Evangelista doesn't seem like the type to back down.

Of course, Pinault's willingness to compromise probably has less to do with the generosity of his heart and more to do with the nasty details that would have come out of Evangelista's testimony, which was scheduled to take place today. There have already been some less than savory (actually, we'd say down right icky) personal details revealed--namely that Pinault broke up with Evangelista after discovering she was pregnant, and that he tried to convince her to have an abortion. According to the Daily Mail, Evangelista was still pregnant when Pinault began dating Salma Hayek, and for the first few years of Augie's life Pinault did not pay any child support because, as the french businessman put it, "She didn’t ask and I didn’t offer."

What's more, Evangelista's demand for $552,000 a year in child support, doesn't seem as extravagant when you consider that Pinault spent $260,000 on watches for himself in 2010 alone--but neglected to buy his son a birthday or Christmas gift until Evangelista complained about it. Again: Ick.

But whatever the impetus behind the settlement we, for one, are glad that this case is closed. Hopefully, for Auggie's sake, this will be the last we hear of the messy court battle.
