Miuccia Prada Might Not Attend the Met Ball Because She 'Fell Off Her High-Rise Platform Shoes'

It's Met Ball Monday! Unless you've been totally off the grid and care nothing about fashion, you know that the theme of the Costume Institute's exhibit this year is "Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations." Suzy Menkes just reviewed the exhibit for the IHT and chatted with Miuccia Prada, who opened up a bit more about her conflicted feelings on being the focus of this year's exhibit. Back in January, Prada reportedly expressed misgivings about the show, but then later her reps told us that her comments were taken out of context and that she was honored to be featured by the Met. But Menkes' story reveals that Prada still has some reservations.

While acknowledging the honor but also putting a bit of distance between herself and the exhibit, she told Menkes:

“I always kept some distance because the museum did everything — it is not something I am responsible for, I can’t control it. Now I like it — and I understand there actually were some similarities. But it is other people’s vision."

So the big question is, will Prada herself be at the Met Ball tonight? Apparently the designer sustained a shoe-related injury which may keep her away from the gala (and that notorious flight of stairs you need to climb to get in). Menkes mentioned that Prada was "resting at The Carlyle hotel after falling off her high-rise platform shoes (and debating whether she would be able to join the Vogue editor Anna Wintour at the Met’s red carpet gala Monday)." Was she trying to walk down subway stairs in the platforms? Because that is treacherous. Anyway. We really hope she's feeling better and that she makes it to the red carpet tonight!
