Nicole Richie To Design for Macy's

Nicole Richie is joining the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Alberta Ferretti and Giambattista Valli, as the latest designer to collaborate with Macy's on a limited-edition capsule collection, WWD is reporting. Of course, this isn't the first time Richie and Macy's have worked together. They both star on NBC's glitzy new fashion reality show Fashion Star. Perhaps Macy's liked what they saw in Richie on the judging panel. Or maybe it's just good timing. Either way, it seems like a good fit.

"Nicole is pretty savvy when it comes to the fashion business and understanding consumers. She’s a real fashion influencer," Martine Reardon, Macy’s Inc.’s chief marketing officer, told WWD. "She’s got a very definitive look, very free style and bohemian chic, and our collection will definitely pay homage to her style."

The Fashion Star judge will be creating a 24-30 piece collection that will revolve around her signature look. In other words, we can expect lots of layers, jewel tones, and bold prints--like a peacock print that Reardon said Richie has used in the past and will provide again for Macy’s.

"This collection has a strong mix of masculine and feminine: printed chiffon mixed with faux leathers," Richie said. It's a collection, Richie added, for the "modern woman" and her "many different layers." "Women are wearing so many different hats these days," she said. "Not just working but creating."

The collection will be available mid-September in Macy's Impulse department, which is located in about 100 locations, as well as on Macys.com.
