Getting older is a bitch. No one probably knows this better than the world’s first supermodels who are now, ahem, all “of a certain age.” And they’re talking pretty vociferously about what it’s like getting older in an industry that worships youth.
We first heard about the documentary About Face: Supermodels Then and Now, back in December, and after making the rounds of the film festivals, it will air on HBO on Monday July 30 at 9pm. The doc, directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, features Jerry Hall, Isabella Rosellini, Marisa Berenson, Carmen Dell’Orefice and tons more models dishing about their experiences. In the clip we have here, the gorgeous China Machado reflects about walking runways in the 50s and how buyers weren’t allowed to touch the dresses because, well, things sometimes got pervy. Watch the clip and we promise you will be riveted.
In case you missed it you can check out the trailer here. And if you’re lucky enough to be in LA this week, you can catch a screening before the rest of the world sees it on HBO. This Thursday and Saturday, June 21 and 23, they’re screening the film at the LA Film Festival and tickets are still available (here). Two of the supers from the doc, Beverly Johnson and Lisa Taylor, will also be on hand for the screening.
So click through to see China and her signature walk (and some circa 1950s hats that look very Marc Jacobs fall 2012), and set your DVR’s for this one.
