How I’m Making It: Wes Gordon

A look from Wes Gordon's fall 2012 collection

What’s the biggest challenge that you’ve faced?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced is a perpetual one – knowing yourself and remaining true to who you are. You’re constantly under a barrage of opinion and influence, so it’s important to filter through it and not lose sight of your own identity. I think this is true for all designers, whether you’re established or just beginning.

What’s the biggest risk that you’ve taken business-wise?
The very first one–deciding to open my own business fresh out of school… and in 2009.

What’s the most fulfilling part of your job?
Being able to bring my dreams and ideas into reality.

Who is your dream customer, living, dead, or imaginary?
Cate Blanchett, Malgosia Bela, Greta Garbo, Eva Green, Carine Roitfeld…

What do you see in store for your brand in the future?
I’m very excited and proud of the direction we’re going in. Each season, I continue to define what I stand for as a designer and, as a result, we’re gaining some great stores and clients. Definitely the next step will be to add Resort and Pre-Fall, as we’re currently only doing Fall and Spring.
